There is an enormous bookstore called Dussmann on Friedrichstraße, just a few hundred meters South of the Friedrichstraße railway station. As for your luggage problems you have to sort them out yourself within the limits set by your transport company. I only travel with hand luggage.
Thanks. I doubt I'll be able to buy enough books to make the luggage a problem, unless I win the lottery in the meantime.
But I thought I'd look at some Assimil courses at least. I had trouble getting my German course in the mail, so I thought maybe I could buy some of the others I want while I'm there. Also, it would be nice to go to a real bookstore again. They're so tiny here and have almost nothing of interest to a language lover. I often think back to when I lived in Philadelphia in my late teens and early twenties. There were two bookstores right next to each other that were several stories high and you could easily spend an entire day there.
