The Polyglot Gathering in Berlin

I’m planning to go to the Polyglot Gathering this year and I’d like to hear from those who’ve gone before what it is like. Also, who is planning to go this year? Is anyone going early or staying after? Does anyone have plans outside of the Gathering?

I haven’t booked my spot yet, but I guess I’d better do it soon. I’m still trying to decide if I should just stay for the Gathering or maybe take a few extra days. And I’m trying to decide what sort of room to take. Single rooms are a little expensive, but being so introverted, I’ll probably need the downtime. Is the Gathering itself noisy and chaotic? I’m guessing it probably is, at least outside of the lectures, what with everyone jabbering away in hundreds of different languages. What else should I know?

I'm going (just signed up the other day). Sometimes there are some pre- and/or post-gathering events such as a city tour, polyglot picnic etc. (and in the registration form you can let them know if you want details about any such event beforehand).

It can be noisy alright, and it's somewhat exhausting to listen to several lectures per day, and to speak many languages. I'll be staying in a single room once again for that very reason. I really appreciate a nap during lunchbreak.

If you speak Esperanto, there's a chance that you can find Pasporta Servo accommodation.

I just signed up too. I'm all excited! And nervous! Though I'm a little less impressed by the average of six languages per participant after seeing the question asking what languages I knew at A2 level or above.

So, what's the best bookstore in Berlin? And how many suitcases will I need to take all my books home with me? Or should I just do like Benny and have a gigantic coat full of pockets and cargo pants?

It will be so much fun to meet you all.

Yes, and I really need to work on mine again too. Judith taught me in a summer course online, so I can't show up having forgotten everything.
