I'm not religious but I think a festival of light at the darkest time of year makes a lot of sense. Winter can be tough but I take comfort in the fact that from now on the days are getting lighter. (Apologies to those of you south of the equator).

Also I have a fridge full of cheese, which is definitely a reason to be cheerful.

Fun fact: in the German version, Bruce Willis screams, "Yippee A Yeh Du Schweinebacke [=pig's jaw/cheek]!"

Important question: does the German version of Hans Gruber still mangle his cases with "Schieß dem Fenster!" (My own theory being that Hans Gruber is not actually German...he's probably not even called Hans!)

I only have one cheese (a camembert) and it has created quite a pong in the fridge.

I tend to become nostalgic in christmas, and I like the lights, food, and even the music. I'm not religious but don't mind the christian symbols. However the atmosphere that builds up with an expectation of happy family celebration can be tough for those without a family or those with a less than perfect life.
