Re: Where's next on your travel list?
Las Palmas, Islas Canarias, España - soon. And I booked it after my mother and I had watched her old photos from Gran Canaria on her computer, and then it struck me as odd that I hadn't visited one of the most popular winter destinations yet. But almost all tours down there go to the South Coast (to places like TooManyPalomas and Playa de los ubiquitous Ingleses), so I have arranged my own accommodation, and I will be staying at the opposite end of the island, namely in the 'capital' Las Palmas. And it will be a monolingual trip - no communication with other tourists if I can avoid it.

Re: Where's next on your travel list?
My first trip coming up is Germany, not for work this time but for pleasure. I'll definitely be speaking German, but nowhere near as much as when I'm there for my yearly conference.
I plan to do some (German) book shopping while I'm there
Trip after that is Finland + Norway. I've already been learning a little Norwegian (although the language+trip combo was incidental and the trip is just a nice bonus), and I'm doing Norwegian for the 6 Week Challenge

My next trip will be to Sicily. I'm learning Sicilian more for Camilleri/Montalbano since my Italian will be perfectly fine there. However, Sicilian could still be helpful in the smaller towns we gravitate to.

Re: Where's next on your travel list?
I'm trying not to use airplanes (for the environment), so I plan to just visit my own country next year via train. I'm thinking of going to Madrid during Semana Santa (Easter) with some side trips: Toledo, Segovia, hiking in Calatayud, Tembleque, Aranjuez, Ávila, El Escorial... I don't know how much time I'll have, I might have to work that week, but we'll see!
I'll also try to go to the Pyrenees and see some snow later this winter and I still have a few places in Tarragona and Barcelona that I keep putting off visiting.

Re: Where's next on your travel list?
I'm trying to find a balance between my desires to travel and to help the environment. This year I've done too many short trips (some holidays, some out of necessity for work) so I'm going to try to do fewer, longer ones to reduce the number of flights I take. I'm also considering (as I have been for a while) moving to mainland Europe, which in theory would make lots more places accessible by land transport but in practice I'd probably just end up flying home to visit a few times per year so wouldn't really make a difference!
Anyway I'm hoping to go to Norway to see a friend and do some snowboarding, and there are plenty places in Italy (South in particular) and Spain that are still on my list and would allow me to practise my languages.

Possible, but not likely: Swedish mainland
Possible, but not very likely: Ireland, Finland
Highly unlikely: Poland (What, no Polyglot Gathering? You're right.)
Unthinkable: Anywhere else
Sorry friends, it's just that I hate travelling. Too many factors are in the way.

Re: Where's next on your travel list?
My daughter wants me to go to Riau Province, Sumatra, Indonesia with her next year. She has her motivations: people she knows, her desire to work on her Indonesian and I suspect she hopes I’d pay her way. And she thinks I would enjoy it.
I don’t know. I would probably find it interesting - maybe a little uncomfortable (her friends lack chairs!). I have spent some time in North Sumatra and enjoyed it.
Anybody been to Riau?
