LANGUAGE: Danish

CHALLENGE: Writing Only

CURRENT LANGUAGE LEVEL: B2

WILLING TO CORRECT LANGUAGE: Yes, English

COMMENTS: This is kind of embarrassing, but my very first post on this forum was Dec 31 2015, and I said this about my Danish: "My writing skills are quite poor, and I would like to rectify that this year." My writing skills are perhaps not quite as poor as they were three years ago, but they remain far, far below my other skills.

Does output need to be original? Meaning from the top of my head? Would recording what I write (which will be original) be within the spirit of the challenge? Or reading from one of my many books?

No the content doesn't need to be original. This is why things like scriptorium activities are counted as well as just free writing. So reading things out loud would count but you have to record it.

As I said in one of my original post for the output challenge just about anything that makes you out put in your target language probably is in the spirit of the Challenge.

Things like Scriptorium and reading aloud are very useful, and I use them a lot to improve pronunciation, grammar, etc, but eventually you need to do free writing and speaking if you want to become good at them. I usually wait until about B1 before bothering much with that though.

Welcome aboard everyone! Let's get that output going! If you don't already have something to write about or record, how about this for a prompt?

A friend you met via a language exchange is coming to visit. Write (or record) a message to them telling them how to get to your house from the airport. Describe each step in the present tense. Describe each location, what they'll see, which direction they must go, etc. They are using public transportation only, so you'll have to tell them where to buy tickets, etc. Describe your home in as much detail as possible, and tell them what to do if you're not at home when they arrive! Do all of this in the present tense. :)

I wasn't planning on focusing much on output at this time, but the idea of writing and recording yourself every week for a year and being able to flip through the production to observe progression intrigues me. Is signing up for a half and half challenge (25000 words, 25 hours of audio) possible? I'm a sucker for challenges and considering joining, but a full challenge is more than I'm willing to commit to this year.
