I mentioned it in my log but thought I might as well declare it here too... I'm in! (As ever.)
Language: Korean
Current Level: A0 (I've 'studied' for a few hours but haven't made much progress as of yet.)
Goal: Ideally—an hour a day would be great and would, I think, get me pretty high up the scoreboard; 30mins/day seems more realistic.
How: FSI Basic Korean, Memrise, TV dramas, TTMIK... and I'll probably find a bunch of other resources to add too!

Re: 6WC 6 Week Challenge - Aug 2018
I will be in China for the next foreseeable while, so hopefully I'll have a good way to access Twitter.
I am signing up for Vietnamese under the name RantaSosite. It's possible I'll visit Vietnam at some point over the next year. I am almost definitely going to visit Japan, but Vietnamese holds more interest for me as one of my nine "long-term" languages.
Level: False beginner/tourist
Goal: 60 minutes a day on average, comfortable tourist level similar to my Cantonese, better knowledge of grammar and sentence structure.
How: Glossika, chorusing, Tuttle's Easy Vietnamese and Basic Vietnamese audio companion courses, possibly Anki if things get real wild.
This time I'll try to keep track of all my studying across all my languages instead of just the target. I think the stars are aligning once more to give me a bunch of time to rack up the hours.

How does this work if one is flying east-to-west across the International Date Line when the 6WC starts? Can I count study time I do on the plane if it’s August in my starting point, but not yet in my destination?smallwhite wrote:Challenge XXX - Aug 2018

That question was asked before and that's what I mean by your time - the time wherever you are is your time. With the extra time you'll have in this case, we expect you to learn 500 more words than the rest of us.

After some deliberation, I’m in with Polish.
Current level: A0 (other than a handful of touristy phrases)
Goal 1: to understand more than 10 words on the first page of Harry Potter i kamień filozoficzny*
Goal 2: to be able to interact on some level with non-English-speaking guests at a wedding I’m attending in Poland at the end of September
How: Collins Easy Learning Polish, Assimil le polonais, maybe some L-R of HP
* words I can work out because I’ve read the book in other languages include numeru, Privet Drive, Dursley, firmy Grunnings produkującej świdry, Dudley and Potter. So starting at about 6% comprehension…

Re: 6WC 6 Week Challenge - Aug 2018
I'm doing Sami - Northern Sami, to be exact. I've been working through a coursebook at A1 level with a friend for almost a year, and we're almost through. I want to do a good deal of repetition, finish the coursebook and get started on book 2. More specifically, I want to get comfortable with the vocabulary I'm supposed to have learned so far, so I can move on with confidence.
And as usual, I'm doing lots of other stuff as well. The first week or so, I'll be doing a lot of Swedish, as I'll still be in Uppsala. After that, I'll mostly be doing French, and hopefully a bit of Russian too. I'll also be reading a book in German for the book club, so maybe I'll add a little Duolingo or something to that, we'll see.

Re: 6WC 6 Week Challenge - Aug 2018
I registered for Russian. I will be taking classes in both Dutch (MOOC) and Latin (an online course) during the six weeks, and this will ensure that I at least do something with Russian daily. I don't think I will ever make any progress with Russian without daily attention.
Level: A0
Goal: Daily Russian.
How: Pimsleur, Road to Russia textbook, lots of YouTube
