Language: Japanese
Current Level: A0 but I knows somewhere between a dozen to 50 random phrases here and there and I learnt hiragana and katakana once upon a time but I've since forgotten half of it.
Goals: To get my listening to a B1. It would be wonderful if I could get a level where I can watch Terrace House/a random Studio Ghibli film and understand the main gist without any subtitles/to have a comprehension of 70% of what it being said.
How: The third three weeks will be dedicated to going through as much of dialogue sections of the remaining 234 episodes on Japanesepod101 and creating Anki cards with the audio at the front and the Japanese phrase with the English translation and explanation if needed on the back. By 21st August, I would like to have finished going through over 200 episodes on the Japanesepod101 site to make the transition to native material not as painful/challenging.

Then the last three weeks will be dedicated to spending over 3 hours on various subs2srs decks and 60-90 minutes of extensive listening of Terrace House, Haikyuu!! and some Studio Ghibli films. I don't expect to finish going through all the cards in every single subs2srs deck. I have the subs2srs deck of Totoro, Whisper of the Heart, Mushishi,FLCL and the Departures. On the third week, I'll spend majority of my time going through the subs2srs decks of Totoro then on the fourth week it will be Whisper of the Heart then on the fifth week it will be Mushishi and the sixth week will be 'The Departures'. I've tried and failed to make my own subs2srs deck in the past, my computer refuses to cooperate with me but has no problem downloading other people's decks. (Like owner, like product). I would like to invest 100 hours going through all the subs2srs decks during those three weeks.

Thanks. That's what I'm using for my extensive listening. It's such a great site- there's a lot of series available. If only there was a French equivalent on this site. It's a shame that I'm not the biggest fan of anime- there's probably only max 5 series on that site that I find okay to watch.

I'm in for French again. This is the last time I'll be able to do this challenge with French, since I am at a low-intermediate level right now (somewhere between A2/B1).

Language: French
Current level: Low-intermediate
Goal: Améliorer mon français, évidemment... More specifically, I want to increase my listening comprehension, because I am continually frustrated by my inability to understand native French media.
How: In addition to completing my Assimil book this month, I plan on listening to InnerFrench podcast daily, without the use of transcripts. I will also read the second Harry Potter book this month, intending to reach the end of the book by August 31. In addition, I may utilize Axolot's super cool YouTube channel to work on matching words to sounds. (Full disclosure, I have no idea if this is truly useful or not, but I want to be able to match sounds to words regardless of whether I can comprehend the meaning of the speech). My intention is to spend 2-3 hours per day on French, as I did during the last challenge.

I have a newbie question:

.@Hestia_Edwards now has rank 7(1.8h) on target-language hours and rank 13 on total hours spent language-learning. Good job!

I originally read this as "of all of the people studying Japanese, you are number 7" and "of all people studying all languages, you are number 13". But now I wonder if this is "number 7 of all languages" based on the ranking found here, and I don't know what the second number is...?

The first number is target language hours. It doesn’t matter which target language. So, if your target language is Japanese, and you have 1.8 hours, than someone who’s target language is French who has 3 hours would still be ahead of you on the list. The second number is total hours. You can count hours in any language you study. Most of us study several. My target language is Tswana, but I’m also studying German, Spanish and Japanese. The first number includes only the time I’ve spent studying Tswana. The second number includes time spent studying any language.
