I just read about this bot that counts your SC progress. Is it different from these bars I have as a signature? If it is, can someone send me a link that explains how I can subscribe?

Thank you!

Yes, it's different. The Twitter bot is here. Instructions for using it can be found near the bottom of the page on the Super Challenge site.

Thank you very much. It's just that in the links you sent me it says that it is for the 2017 challenge and the newest tweet of the bot is on August 13 2017. Isn't there a newer version for the 2019 challenge?

The bot isn't able to tweet but it does record everyone's tweets. Also, the page is for the current challenge even if it says 2017 (I don't remember what the problem was but basically this can't be fixed just by editing plain text).

Yeah the date was hard coded into the webpage on the first challenge and we haven't gotten around to changing it to read the date from the DB. But it is the current one.

Hello everybody. Has the bot gone down? I sent out a tweet last night that didnt seem to get picked up again. There was something odd with the formatting so I deleted and tried again a bit over an hour ago and it wasn't picked up again.

Worth noting I haven't updated since early July so perhaps it has something to do with my inactivity.

I completely forgot there was a bot for this challenge. If it's working I'll sign up now that I can twitter account I don't mind using for this sort of thing.

EDIT: I was able to register and it seems the bot is working. The only problem I've had is that on my last entry for Gaelic, it appears to have added the time (90 minutes) to my Gaelic film total but on the activity list below the total, it only shows the activity name and not the time, like it does for all other activity I've tweeted to the bot. I suspect that's an issue with the site and not the bot?

I think I saw this answered somewhere a long time ago, but I can't seem to find it anywhere.

How are people dealing with page counts for ebooks?

As a test, I picked a few books off my bookshelf to see what the actual # of pages were, then went on Amazon to look up the same titles and the page counts listed there were wildly different (one book was off by 23 pages and another was off by almost 100 pages!) Is there some source that is relatively accurate (like Goodreads or some other site) that doesn't count pages of footnotes at the end, for example?

There's no good way. A hard copy book can have anywhere from 250 to 400 "words" per page depending on the format, and the same novel can vary by hundreds of pages. I think there was discussion here that settled on 350 words / page as a good average, but I have no idea how you figure out how many words are in an ebook.

I'll usually look at the various page counts on goodreads, and take a count from somewhere in the middle. It's not a perfect system.

I go to the actual publisher site and use the number of pages they state a book is. Sometimes it agrees with Amazon and sometimes not. I have noticed with the Kindle that you could probably do a formula based on the max location. A hardback book, trade paperback & traditional small paperback will all have different page numbers for the same title because of size variations. And like kanewai noted, the number of words on a physical book varies a lot depending on size, font, etc.

I wouldn't get too bogged down on this. I often reread pages because I fall asleep reading and don't remember the last bit when I resume the next day. I'll go back 1-3 pages depending on when I clearly remember a paragraph. Or rereading paragraphs because I become fixated on a particular phrase.
