If you don't want to use the bot, you can update on your log, and updates can be as often or as occasional as you wish. For example, at the end of the month you could write about what you read and watched(/listened), how many pages, how much time, and give a running total. Or you could write an update every time you finish a book or film.

By the way, does my Twitter account need to be public? It's locked but it worked fine for registering, so I'm guessing 'no'...

It doesn't seem to be responding to anyone :(
If the bot is following you, it will see your tweets. Otherwise it won't. When you've registered and got it to follow you, you can set your account to protected.

The bot seems to register and update but it's not following me. I suppose that shouldn't cause any issues in the future?

I don't think it needs to follow you, since you're sending it messages directly with the @langchallenge in the tweet.

Yeah I was speaking of "protected" accounts. If your tweets are set to protected and the bot is not following you, it won't see them.

I tried again this morning but it's still not picking up my updates :(
(I checked, the bot is following me.)

A couple other silly questions:
7. Does listening to a song in target language count?
8. Does listening to a record of the Holy Koran (with translation after each verse) count?

Music doesn't count. Reading lyrics can maybe count as poetry (but remember what the original goal of the challenge was)
Koran recordings can probably count as an audiobook. Of course you can't count the translation into your native language.

Can you choose to do only the "watching 100 films" part? Would that count as half a challenge?

Can you choose to do a double challenge for the films part and half a challenge for the books part?
