Re: 6WC 6 Week Challenge - May 2018
Total time spent on French in the last 4-1/2 weeks:
4,412 minutes (73.5 hours)
I didn't have a goal, but it's nice to see how much time I spent studying French in the last 31 days. I definitely think I could have done better, though! Great job everybody. Smallwhite, thanks for setting this up. I really liked this challenge, it was simple and motivating.
I'm happy that I don't have to track my time anymore, though. Tracking is my nemesis.

It's Sprachprofi who started this challenge, created the twitter bot, the website and the scoreboards. I just create a discussion thread like this one each time since Sprachprofi is no longer active.

I think can be very useful to see how you actually spend your time, but I'm also relieved every time the 6WC is funished. Finally freedom!

I had all my exams in the 6WC period, and my main goal was to focus as much as possible on my to main languages, which I had exams in, to be as prepared as possible. I think I formulated this as at least 40% in each language - and in that respect, I didn't make it, as I ended up with 30% in Russian and 62% in French (Russian was my target language, as my level in French is too high). The reason, however, was that I needed more time to prepare for the French exams, and now that the results are in, it's clear that I made the right choice. Also, I did succeeed in focusing on my two target languages, as the total is over 90%.
Then there's the total numbers - last time I did 161 hours, this time only 129. There are two reasons - one is that I also had some exams that were irrelevant for this challenge. The other is that I felt a need to stress down in front of the exams. It's usual for me to put in the longest hours at the beginning of the semester, or at the start of a task in general, as I don't perform well under last-minute pressure. I think my total last time was unusually high, so there was no point in competing with that this time around.
I think this was my last 6WC with Russian, as my level is approaching the upper limits of this challenge (maybe not if I push it, but I'd rather not). So now I'll have to start thinking about which language I want to do next time.

Re: 6WC 6 Week Challenge - May 2018
Couldn't have asked for a better first 6WC. I had the time and motivation to study my language for an hour a day and the time lined up perfectly with when I was planning to study that language anyway.
And it showed that using my favorite method on a closely related language really does work fast. In my ~35 days of studying I went from being able to parrot rehearsed phrases to actually coming up with my own sentences and understanding the answers.
It's an amazing feeling to study a language for a short time then go to the place where they speak it and have no trouble understanding the simple tourist language you hear. "Have a look at the menu and see what you want to order." Might as well have been English!
I can also see both how to continue improving my Cantonese (same stuff, more speaking) and how to effectively use the time for my next 6WC (Polish? Russian? Vietnamese? Bai? Zhuang?). What a great experience!

Re: 6WC 6 Week Challenge - May 2018
My only goal was to spend at least 50% of my time on Latin. My final numbers were:
50.7% Latin
43.33% Italian
5.97% Multilingual (Sicilian and Piemontèis)
I was happy with this. Totals:
Target Score Total Score
3349 (55h49) 6605 (110h5)
I'll probably do Sicilian for the next challenge. I do wish they would accept the codes for the other two languages.

Am I understanding correctly that there will be another 6WC starting in August? I'm really impressed by all your results and now kind of want to try myself
