Sprachprofi wrote:The 6 Week Challenge is a challenge to upgrade your language skills in one language from beginner to something more worthwhile, and to see if you can find more time to study languages when competing with other participants in a global highscore. 6 Week Challenges start on February 1st, May 1st, August 1st and November 1st every year, so there is a rough 6 weeks on / 6 weeks off pattern. Note that you can only do the 6 Week Challenge with a language that you're a beginner at or lower-intermediate at most. This allows for a more just comparison between participants.

ISO 639-1 codes here

The three tags #ie #multilingual #linguistics which are all grouped together as "Multilingual" on the scoreboard can be used if you don't want to differentiate between several languages.

Also available are: Nahuatl, #Ancient_Greek, #ASL, #Cantonese. I don't know what the tag is for Nahuatl.

Putting the word "yesterday" into a tweet, with or without hashtag, adds the score in that tweet to the previous day rather than the current day.

I think I'm going to sign up with Icelandic for this. I know for sure I won't win since I'll have a lot going on the next month, but I want to at least show I made the effort to commit. I don't think I can sign up with Spanish. I'll sign up when I get home and update the post accordingly. Huzzah!

EDIT: I signed up, but as of this moment I'm not showing up on the page. Let's hope I do. I think I know how to use the bot but I'm not sure.

Also, if you want to see the resources I'll be using, feel free to check my log later tonight. I'll be posting a list of the ones I plan to or am using.

I will continue to study Turkish during this 6WC.

Turkish is really fun and challenging! It's the hardest foreign language I have learnt... or probably the only foreign language I have learnt, as French, German and even Greek now only look like variations of English by comparison! With Turkish, every word is a puzzle and every other is a trap :) There're lots of resources, though, and the languge is still very accessible. And fun!

So far, I've taken various online tests and have gotten B1 in grammar, reading, listening and vocabulary (after 102 to 215 study hours) (days 30 to 69). But I'm not B1 in output yet - I expect this 6WC to get me there!

Main resources I'll be using:
- Routledge Turkish Grammar book
- grammar websites
- Quizlet
- and then just random things from the library and the internet as usual

I've signed up for German, with a personal goal to hit 100 hours. I'll be using German Step-by-Step, Memrise, maybe Duolingo, and I'll have to decide what else.
