Re: 6WC 6 Week Challenge - Feb 2018
A bit disappointed I couldn't reach the top 3 haha. But this was very fun for my first time and it's definitely helped me build good habits. I'll miss the competition because it was a huge motivator but I think I've learned enough to keep me going until the next one

Re: 6WC 6 Week Challenge - Feb 2018
Another 6WC behind us!
This time we had 41 sign-ups, 9 of which didn't end up reporting any minutes. So we have 32 busy bees and 9 lazy bones At this moment, the winners in the Target Language category are:
1. marianilsen11 with Russian (who is this?)
2. veskrnap with Italian (who is this?)
3. JvS_ESP with Spanish who is Jaleel10
Congratulations!
I came first in the Total Score category, with 10010 minutes / 166h50m. Yay me That averages 3h58m per day, or if you take away the very confusing discounted background listening time, 3h38m study hours per day.
I had signed up with Greek, which I thought I was going to finish off and then drop, only to discover Turkish a few days later and fell in love. So from Feb 4th onwards I was mainly (63%) studying Turkish. I was also reading a novel in Spanish until Feb 13th and learning its vocabulary.
Turkish is wonderful Its Latin script is a breeze to read (after Greek ) and it is grammar-rich (I love grammar). There're fewer resources but still enough grammar books and websites to keep me happy Got 24/25 in transparent's test on Day 29, and B1 in languagecoursesuk's grammar test on Day 30 (Hour 102).

Congratulations to the winners!
I came 2nd in the Target Language category with Italian. I did 73h26m, it is only 1h45m per day. My target was a bit higher, I aimed for 4-5 hours per day, however I got bored with Italian during the challenge and did something else.
I am looking forward to the next 6WC... this time I will work on more languages.

That's me
(I could have sworn reineke held that spot when I logged out last night...)
I honestly never thought I could get that first spot, especially not in the target language, since I never make it through a 6WC without dropping by at least six different languages. But this time, although I did do that this time as well, I became more and more focused on my target language as the challenge went on, and ended up with almost 50 % Russian. Which means I really need to get back to doing some more French now...
And the first spot on the total? I gave it up at around 6 PM last night, when I realized that working countinuously until midnight would leave me about 30 minutes behind Congratulations to you as well, smallwhite!

I realised that "XXVIII" is incorrect. There are 28 scoreboards on the 6wc website, but there were actually a number of challenges before that. The HTLAL thread above is how it all started, I think, so there should be around 40 challenges to date.

But that stuff is the equivalent of watching a dubbed series. Don’t you have any Turkish bakeries or kebab shops selling delicious native content?

Today’s photos and recent mentions of cup mie are making me worry about your diet, smallwhite. Or is that the secret to your language learning success - high (dubbed) carb diet!

I don't actually eat cup mie, and the baklava is my first ever - gotta experience a word through all 5 senses, they say!
