10 days into the 6WC :) I've been working very hard and I've been pretty faithful to my TL Greek so far.

I'd like to ask: how do you classify "reading novels and articles, looking up all of the 2 to 8% unknown words and putting them into SRS software"? Do you view it as a reading activity or a vocabulary activity?

I've always classified that under "vocabulary", but looking at Zenmonkey's timesheet makes me think that people usually call that "intensive reading" and under "reading". My 6WC stats currently show "vocab" as making up 52% and "reading" 21%. If I swap the classification then it'd be the other way round.

I know we can classify things any way we like but I'd like to know how you view it. Thanks.

Personally I tend to classify the reading part as reading activities (I write down words for SRS and enter them later). And I tend to not track the SRS creation activities. I guess I could track that as administrative but I just don't.

Yet another way to do it!

Do you mean you don't track SRS creation activities for RD's Study or for 6WC's? For the former I believe you should, and for the latter you can - don't miss out :P

I'm starting to track it for the study. But previously I never tracked anything administrative, organizational or material management related.

I know what you mean. For the study, I'm learning from podcasts that have transcripts. So, I'm creating flashcards based on the content - fine. For Czech, it's just a matter of copy/paste (and the time it takes is usually negligible). But some lessons in Cantonese doesn't have characters (other than in the video), so I have to look up everything via Jyutping romanization system and an online dictionary. If I tracked the real time (which is much longer than the three minute-lesson), my spreadsheet would look different.

And you don't count that?? I had thought counting hours instead of days makes for more accurate comparison, and made the switch 4 languages ago. Now I wonder if I should bother.

I'll continue this discussion in my log.

Today is Aug 22nd which means 50% of the 6WC has past. How is everyone doing?

I've been averaging over 6 hours a day which is good, but I don't like the mix of activities I've been doing so that has to change.

I'm going well though the challenge feels like it's passing rather quickly! It looks like I won't reach the stretch goals I set myself (such as learning 1000 words). However I've got into the rhythm of learning, it's a habit now to learn vocab on the train, watch the news during my lunch break and so on.

Do people feel they are making progress? I can tell that my comprehension is improving but not at the rate I'd like it to! It's been a while since I started a new language, studying it is quite tiring (especially one with very few cognates in any language I already know).
