Re: NaNoWriMo (writing a novel from November 1-30)

I "won" NaNoWriMo twice, but the second time I didn't really win because I didn't realize that I had to upload my data before midnight. I finished writing after 11 on the last day, went to bed, tried to update the next morning - and was rejected. It still stings.

I was already thinking about doing a modified Spanish NaNo, and this thread has me convinced. I'm going to aim for a full NaNo, but if I get to 25000 words, I'll be satisfied. I won't have access to a computer in the evening, so I'll be hand-writing in a notebook - we'll see how it goes!

I haven't planned out my story yet, but it will be by a native English-speaker doing an immersion class in Guatemala, to explain both the hand-written journal and the inevitable mistakes. And it will be in Spanish, since the author figures anyone who finds it may not be able to read in English.

I'm so looking forward to this!

Here's my profile, if anyone wants to be NaNo friends:

NaNo just wrote off the very first year that I attempted it, 2009. It doesn't show up on the site. Which is fair enough, it was a bad year and a worse story.

@rdearman I LOVE Mark Haddon's 'A Curious Incident...' and I keep meaning to read more of his stuff... I found Matt Haig to be similarly brilliant, although his work has more of a paranormal twist (especially 'The Humans' and 'The Radleys')

Also I'll probably be writing by hand too, Stelle, as I hardly ever get my laptop out and the thought of writing on my tablet/mobile phone fills me with dread. That way, I'll be able to write on my breaks at work too.

I signed up on the NaNo website too so I'll see about connecting on there with you guys.

I found this thread for Non Native NaNoers and I will [try to remember to] make it my hometown. Or, you know. Close enough.

So I have completely changed my mind with regards to what I will be writing. I have realised that my old idea would be too imaginitive for my work-addled brain to think about day after day, so I'm going to write something a bit more contemporary. What exactly I'm going to write about, though, I'm not sure yet.

Good luck with creating the new idea, Spoon!

I'm actually getting somewhere with my planning and feeling somewhat (dare I say it?) optimistic! I met with a handful of London NaNoers this evening and we plotted a bit and then chatted a lot more. It's given me some semblance of confidence :)

OK, I've decided to just get characters and work out a plot around them. So I've randomly generated some people. French Novel here I come! (Hopefully)

I must be crazy. I signed up too. It will be in Italian because I so rarely write in Italian.

Incidentally, 50000 words is 111.1 pages of single spaced Arial 12.
