Elenia wrote:I have also found myself thinking about doing NaNo in Swedish. Maybe when the time comes we should create a thread. It might just be the two of us there, though, wailing about our poor decisions.*
(I also have three unfinished NaNo novels that I really should get to work on but... eh.)
Last year I started on a Spanish NaNo story, but then I got pretty sick for 3 weeks, which was incompatible with writing lots. But I often do NaNo, so it would be awesome to have a little writers contingent here on LLorg, when the time comes.
What is NaNoWriMo?
From the official website:
National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30. Valuing enthusiasm, determination, and a deadline, NaNoWriMo is for anyone who has ever thought about writing a novel.
It's often referred to as just "NaNo", and its participants as "WriMos". If you have more questions, .check out their FAQ.
Resources
- No Plot? No Problem!, the canonical book by Chris Baty that started it all. Light-hearted, encouraging, great for getting into the "spirit" of NaNoWriMo. [English]
- official NaNo forums, where you can get lots of encouragement, commiseration, plot & character help. [English]
- Writing Excuses, a podcast by published authors Brandon Sanderson, Mary Robinette Kowal, Dan Wells, & Howard Tayler with tons of 15-episodes full of great advice and inspiration [English]
But beware, it's easy to spend your time researching about instead of actually writing! (Ask me how I know. )

"Custom" goals are allowed generally (and it makes you a "NaNo Rebel", something that's officially welcome). Custom goals especially make sense for something like what we're doing, writing in L2's. If you're considering joining us LLorg folk in November, don't let the fact that some of us are attempting the full 50,000-word goal deter you from joining with a more reasonable goal! Just make it something "challenging but just achievable".
