I'd love to contradict you with the good sense of this but... seeing as three out of four (five, if you include Expug) are also on the Finnish Pain Train, I haven't really got a leg to stand on.

I did July Camp NaNo in Swedish, and managed to write 5,000 words, which is about what I usually get anyway. I hope that with careful planning, I'll get about as far as I would have gotten in English. Actually, I hope I win but I've not yet once hit the 50,000 word mark in anything.

It's legal to spend October writing the outline, and the finished (as well as you can) product in November.

Some folks are "pantsers" who truly do better without an outline...

That said, if you're a newbie to NaNo or fiction-writing in general, I agree with rdearman: an outline ready to go by October 31st will be a huge help. Especially when you (inevitably) feel stuck and/or questioning your sanity. ;)

I think I want to participate in Spanish! I just got an idea for a story yesterday. Who knows if it'll pan out though :)

Nope, you guessed just right. Although I am thinking now that maybe setting myself a lower goal is completely pointless, given that I probably won't reach it anyway and I am likely to feel even worse for failing an "easier" goal than I would if I went for the real challenge and fell hopelessly short. :?
