I'm down for this challenge. I'm going to start today.

I finally have a deck ready for my needs.

Are we agreed? Is 10000 cards when you click on "review" in anki and 0 cards in "due" and "suspended" categories, equivalent to "learning 10000 cards?" I think that is the same number that shows up when you add up the "new+learning and mature" categories in the display statistics.
If you use more than one deck, just add them up.

If you use a different SRS system than anki, just figure out how to get the equivalent information.

I'm planning on doing it in conjunction with the super challenge to study cards that I generate from the super challenge. I'm going to mix Tagalog and Spanish cards together in the same deck... I'm going to do sentence cards, at least at first. Any type of card goes. The Challenge will run from now until the end of 2017.

Did I forget anything? Any problems with this?

If it's OK, let's start a thread to register and another to discuss.

I'm using a different software, but I assume the Challenge means:

* 10,000 new cards over the ~600 days
* all of the cards active, not suspended, not deleted as at the end of day ~600
* if some cards will be suspended or deleted by then, you learn more cards to make up for them
* none of them due for review as at the end of day ~600
* so, will need to keep more abreast with reviews towards the end of the Challenge
* any language, any combination of languages
* word cards, sentence cards, any format

Can we start May 1st and have the Challenge run for 20 calendar months? Or start any month but always to run for full calendar months.

I've been deleting cards over 3 months old lately, but in order to participate, I will now keep them.

Is a word done both ways (L1->L2, L2->L1) 2 cards?

If it is 2 separate cards in your deck I don't see why not. Same with each cloze deletion card should be counted as separate.

That's great.

* * *

I suggest everyone take online vocabulary or grammar tests (whichever applicable) before and after the Challenge, and maybe during it as well once in a while. Online tests, mock or past language tests, sampling from a certain novel, sampling from a certain grammar workbook, etc. That way you'd see your own progress in real terms, get motivation, have data to help decide on learning strategy, have data to share with other participants and considerants.

You will be using Memrise, correct? For Memrise, at the end of the challenge, we should have 10000 words and none of them that need to be watered? I was liking the rule that you had to have 2 reps on the "word" in order for it to count.
Also would using SRS to learn kanji count as well?

Well since sfuqua started the thread, technically he'd be the final arbitrator of the rules, but I don't see why the content of the deck makes any difference.

Most likely I'll be using Memrise. 10k words planted and none of them need to be watered, yes.

With Memrise, a planted/learned word has at least 6 reps done already, and I think that's good enough. But if we do want to enforce a certain number of revision reps, we can do it like:
* Learning stage to run for 19 months (May 2016 - Nov 2017)
* Cut-off date / evaluation date / no-outstanding reps day 31st Dec 2017
which means the last batch of cards learned will be 1 month old by the Cutoff date.
Or maybe Learning stage up to 30th Dec 2017 and Cutoff date 31st Dec 2017. That sounds less clumsy.
