Re: Fastest C1 Ever
I don't know that its 'roots' are in radical social engineering. Its roots are in mutual understanding and communication in a place with multiple languages. There are plenty other languages with a long history of producing research/practise in radical social engineering, not least the one I'm writing in right now.

Pedantry is properly the over-rating of any kind of knowledge we pretend to.

Re: Fastest C1 Ever
I've never thought about it this way.
I'm very interested too. I'm sure have to spend a few more hours a week, if I decide to take the test. This reminds me the kinds of challenges on the old HTLAL forum.
...Then this Esperanto challenge can be really helpful for you, because you'll no longer be "stabbing in the dark" when it comes to developing fluency in your other languages; you'll know how it's supposed to feel and how to get there; your brain will have created the necessary pathways...

I've opened a registration thread here: https://forum.language-learners.org/vie ... 21&t=18629 . Our first meeting will be on Sunday the 20th.
If you're not sure yet whether you will go all the way or just share part of the road, you're still welcome
You probably won't need more time - Esperanto is unbelievably simple, and there's no meaningful difference in difficulty between the texts introduced around the middle of "Enjoy Esperanto" and the texts of the C1 exam. But to be sure, we'll do mock exams and similar exercises on the way, so nobody enters the exam unprepared. Worst case scenario is to fall back onto the B2 exam if the mock C1 exam feels too dicey for you. Both exams are offered online in June.

Re: Fastest C1 Ever
I'm totally up for this - I even have Complete Esperanto on my Kindle and have done the first few chapters. If I had to describe my learning type, it's "totally needs an external event, with a date and preferably milestones, with oversight" in order to kick into gear
Only thing I would say is, I certainly can't do a unit from this book in 1 hour of study. I've just checked in my notebook, for Unit 1 of Complete Esperanto I wrote 12 A5 pages of notes; obviously read the unit (not sure how many printed pages that is as I have an e-book), listened to the vocab and conversations and, well, had to think a bit - maybe I'm just slow lol. Recall upthread someone asking about C1 in 56 hours of study - I'm sure there are people who can do that, but I'm not one of them!
