I really like this idea, Serpent; 5 short stories per year is a much less daunting prospect than, say, completing 100 novels for the Super Challenge, especially for learners at the intermediate level! I also think it's a good way to get into the habit of reading more, especially in a language that's quite demanding and difficult to source like Hawaiian. I don't mind tackling some children's books or easy readers at my current level, for example, but novels like "Ka Hopita" (The Hobbit) are still well out of my league. Do you have any ground rules in mind for how short a story should be for this challenge?

Languages and levels: English, Swedish, French, German
Goal: ???
Books you plan to read:
    English
  • The Cyberiad by Stanislaw Lem
    Swedish
  • Resa med lätt bagage by Tove Jansson
A link to your profile/shelf on Goodreads, LibraryThing etc: My goodreads profile.

Is it also possible to read in L1? Because I have a new book of short stories in English :3

READ
English

  1. 'Prince Ferrix and the Princess Crystal', Stanislaw Lem, The Cyberiad
  5. 'Resa med lätt bagage', Tove Jansson, Resa med lätt bagage
  6. 'Lustgården', Tove Jansson, Resa med lätt bagage
  7. 'Måsarna', Tove Jansson, Resa med lätt bagage

I'm also in! But I am also curious as to what counts as a short story. I have a small collection of short stories, but the only book I have access to now is Grimms Märchens, and the stories are usually only about 10 pages long, sometimes only 4 pages! So not sure if that counts as a short story... But maybe I could read a few at the time. Anyway, info:

Language: German (C1)
Goal: 1 short story (or the equivalent) every two weeks
Books I plan to read: Grimms Märchen, Liebe Schmerz und das ganze verdammte Zeug, Sommerhaus später, das Urteil und andere Erzählungen, Der Tod in Venedig und andere Erzählungen

This definitely counts! Some things I'll be reading are pretty short too :D
