OK, screw it. I'll learn Esperanto too. It isn't like I have a full time job, a family, learning three other languages, a double super challenge coming up, participating in my own Output Challenge and (poorly) administer a forum. Plus you did give me all though mini-books for Esperanto...

Sigh... looks like I'll be signing up to team wanderlust as well.

But I need a goal. Is there some kinda meetup in the UK this year? Preferably sometime after April/May 2016? Maybe I should create a really large rod for my own back and volunteer to do a speech there in Esperanto?

Yay :D Brun Ugle - quick, add him to the list before he changes his mind

The British Esperanto Conference is going to be in Liverpool this year but it's quite early (mid-March). Beginners are welcome and there are normally some sessions for beginners as part of the programme.

Alternatively, we will definitely be running some weekend courses for beginners/intermediates (along the lines of this) at Esperanto House in Staffordshire at some point during the year. The dates for 2016 haven't been set yet but I will post them here once they are :)

Dankon pro la informoj :) Mi do devos provi la rusan kurson denove ĉar ŝajnas al mi ke mi ne sukcesis trovi iajn gramatikajn notojn

I'll be lurking around, too. Esperanto is on my list after my Italian goes somewhere (then I'll have to decide which one to bring up to upper-intermediate first, Spanish or Esperanto). I know some esperantists and I've been to beginner classes but it turned out 'harder' than I expected so I put it on hold indefinitely, but I believe that just by hanging around with you guys I'm going to learn quite a bit.

Jen ankaŭ mi! Thanks for adding me to the team, Radioclare. :)

It's taken me a while to figure out what exactly I want out of Esperanto, and I think I've finally got it: I want to use this language to write in. I keep a journal and have done so for years, and I think that using Eo as a language for personal written expression could offer a lot of potential for creativity and expression along with precision. I might read literature in Eo too, but I'm not really interested in using it as a spoken language. (For some reason, French is another language that falls into this category for me – I love writing and reading in it, but speaking it just feels like a chore.)

I'm very much interested in Eo from a linguistic point of view; for instance, its agglutinative system fascinates me. My goals for this TAC are pretty simple: I want to finish the Duolingo tree for Esperanto (I'm already most of the way done) and then start journaling in Eo on a regular basis. I also hope to post some writing in the language in order to get corrections. Looking forward to being on y'all's team!

One bad thing about Duolingo is that the app doesn't show the notes or even mention that they exist. I always use the website to read the notes, then go back to the app to do the lessons and review. I don't know how the notes are for Russian, but they are good for Esperanto. The notes in the Spanish course weren't very good though. So it depends who makes the course.

There are a couple of rough spots when learning Esperanto. I remember thinking a few times, "But this language is supposed to be easy!" However, I kept going and usually pushed quite quickly through the rough patches. I was actually capable of very simple conversation after only a week, so it really is something you can learn quickly. The problem is finding a chance to practice.

Russian requires extended use in real life to get good at it.

I'm joining this team, but I'm a fairly advanced Esperanto speaker.

Yay :) We now have seven members, which is way more than I expected when I created the team. I've updated the first post now with links to everyone's logs, but let me know if you spot anything which is wrong!
