Para cumplir mi palabra del reto de enero, voy a reseñar algunos podcasts del cono sur. Todos son del sitio web Argentina Podcastera, una maravillosa red de podcasts en que se puede buscar por podcasts de un pais especifico.


1982 Este podcast es un podcast que trata de la música popular del año 1982. ¿Por qué este año? Es el año en que "una dictadura absurda nos metieron en una guerra inútil", y la música cantada en inglés estaba censurado. Boy George, George Michael, Dexys Midnight Runners, Duran Duran, Michael Jackson, todos los hits más reconocidos de este año.

Demasiado Cine, Star Wars, historia de una saga Para prepararles por la experiencia de la nueva entrada de la saga, todos los amigos de este podcast revieron todas las películas. Cada una tiene un episodio interesante, debates, teorías, y análisis de los personajes y paisajes importantes. Además, hay un episodio que se trate de Ralph McQuarrie, el genio detras de los diseños de los naves, los droids, los stormtroopers, y mucho más.

Here's my review for January. Was this the only task or was another suggested as well? I've lost track.

Ojos de agua es la primera novela escrita por el autor español Domingo Villar. El libro, que fue publicado en 2006, trata de la historia de un homicidio en la costa griega y nos introduce al inspector Leo Caldas (y su acompañante Rafael Estévez) que también son los personajes principales en su siguiente libro, la playa de los ahogados.

La historia empieza con el descubrimiento del cadáver de un saxofonista y no sólo fue el hombre asesinado sino mutilado también. En esa casa conocemos a nuestros detectives - el tranquilo y paciente Leo Caldas y el opuesto, Estévez. Estévez es un aragonés que se ha mudado a Galicia y todavía está acostumbrándose a la cultura gallega y su gente. A medida que desarrolla la historia aprendemos más sobre la vida de la víctima, la ciudad y la relación de Caldas y Estevéz. También poco a poco se ve más el pasado de Caldas y empezamos a saber los problemas personales que le persiguen.

televisión

Os recomiendo Isabel. Ya lo he dicho varias veces en mi log, pero me encantó esta série. Es un drama histórico que trata de la reina Isabel y del rey Fernando. La trama es apasionante y la ropa es muy impresionante. Podéis verlo en RTVE o en Drama Fever (con sútitulos ingleses de quita y pon) si sois en Norteamérica. Os advierto - ¡es muy adictivo!

Me gusta mucho Fallo de sistema en RTVE. Se trata de la cultura "friki": videojuegos, películas, ciencia popular, fantasía, ciencia ficción, libros, y cosas así. Hay discusiones, entrevistas, reportajes, y clips de películas o series de televisión. También hay canciones interesantes, aunque sean a veces en inglés.

Yup, ivoox is amazing. I'm basically just reading in Spanish. I alternate between reading a book on my kindle (where I can easily look up unknown words) and listening to an audio book from ivoox while I follow along with the text. This seems to be a great combination.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to find time to do much listening. I just basically listen to the voa noticias every morning on the way to work. I'd like to try something else during that 15-20 minutes.

One question for the experts: for those of you like me who are not immersed and have full-time jobs and families, do you think there is a limitation to how advanced we can get? Is there going to be a point where I just get stuck? I feel like I am at a fairly solid B2 level in everything except writing. I do feel like I am constantly improving. I feel like if I were to continue reading a ton of books and watching a ton of telenovelas I'd be able to get to a decent C1 level. However, I still think I'd have some significant holes in my Spanish, especially in my speaking ability. I'd really like to get to the highest level I can get to without being immersed and only being able to spend about an hour a day on Spanish... but am beginning to wonder if I am already close to the limit.

Si, si, si, si, claro que sí. Me gusta ivoox, pero hay tantas opciones que a veces es difícil encontrar exactamente lo que quiero. Hace unas meses, yo buscaba recursos para mejorar mis habilidades con el castellano del cono sur, con argentina podcastera encontré algunos podcasts que me gustan.

As for a February challenge, I know we had talked about working on country-specific improvements, but I forget where. Maybe Stelle's log? I'll say that I tried to watch the chilean version of the The Office a year or so ago, and it was near impossible. Maybe I'll tackle a couple episodes of that, or find something from cuba that gives me headaches.

And for a little recommendation, it's a heartbreaking story, but radioambulante's two episodes on the intersection of heavy metal music and AIDs in Cuba is really good, in case you want to work on caribbean spanish.

Ooh, I was going to choose Chile, because even though I don't really comsume any media from Latin America, I was once introduced to my friend's Chilean boyfriend and when we spoke Spanish for like 5 minutes I struggled so much to understand him (he spoke so quickly!). I would like to go some way to rectifying that by improving my recognition of Chilean Spanish in general.

February's challenge is going to be a great one, methinks.

¡Hola lob@s! A few of us discussed informally on my log the idea of working on media from a country that you're unfamiliar with as a February challenge. But we didn't discuss it here or decide as a team. Before officially declaring it the February challenge, I'd like to open it up to discussion! How do you feel about listening to at least one piece of media (movie, TV show, podcast) in an accent that you're unfamiliar with?

I should have posted this well before the start of February. In preparation for future months, would anyone like to suggest some other possible challenges that we might be interested in trying? Maybe we can do some brainstorming together.
