Comments, links: I am historically awful at logging but the twitter seems easy enough that even I might be able to stick to it.

Language: French
Challenge: Full
Current level: A2
Comments, links: I've been super inconsistent with my French studies and thought this challenge could be the push I need to help bring me up to B1/B2, at least passively.

And here we go again!

Language: French
Challenge: Full
Current level: I'd guess C1 for reading, maybe B2 for listening, B1/B2 for speaking, A2 for writing
Comments, links: For Super Challenge 1 I only watched movies, and it was a great cultural experience. I don't really have the time or patience to watch that much again, so my audio will mostly be podcasts and occasional audiobooks.

Language: Italian
Challenge: Full
Current level: One step down from French, so let's say B1/B2 for reading, A2/B1 for listening and speaking.

Language: Spanish
Challenge: Full
Current level: Half a step below Italian.

I passed on the last two challenges, as I always had other languages I was studying. I hoped to bring some of them up to a Super Challenge level, but didn't. I don't have any new languages on my radar through 2023, so I'll have time to do the challenge properly.

I registered for a language family on one of the challenges, and that didn't work out for me - even though I was one of the ones who advocated for it! I found I really wanted to track them separately.

I used to twitter everything so that I could continually track my progress. I might take a more relaxed approach this time, and only tweet when I finish a book.

Language: Spanish
Challenge: Full
Current level: Poked around a little at Spanish a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. I learned, and still recall, enough to be able to order a beer and ask for directions to the baño, but I never really learned enough to be able to understand whatever directions may be given in response. So, decidedly below an A1 level equivalent.
Comments, links: I have just recently started up again with Spanish study. Back in twenty months or less to crow obnoxiously about my inevitable crushing of this challenge.

Language: French
Challenge: Half
Current level: Rusty B1
Comments: I haven't had a great track record with completing Super Challenges but since they first started I still managed to pass JLPT N2 and then learn German from scratch, so let's see how I get on with French! I won't be using Twitter to log as I am not a fan of social media, but I'll track with a spreadsheet (I love a good spreadsheet...) and put updates in my language log as and when appropriate. It would be good to finally crack listening to natural French!

Language: Spanish
Challenge: Double
Current level: Estimated A2 reading and aural comprehension.
Comments, links: I'm going for the double and am reasonably confident I can complete it, although I'll likely need to do a big push in the latter half of the challenge once my skills have improved. I'm currently transitioning from graded material to Harry Potter and all the colorful and descriptive verbs that it brings. :D

Language: English
Challenge: Full
Current level: C1
Comments: My English is in maintenance mode, I learn mostly through reading and watching movies/TV. As for the reading part of the challenge I may start with The Night's Dawn Trilogy that is about 3100 pages long (62 books). As for the film part of the challenge I was thinking about rewatching all episodes of Lost (5500 minutes/61 films).

Language: French
Challenge: Full
Current level: B1
Comments: What I need to do here is to expand my vocabulary a lot and improve my listening ability that is quite miserable. I am likely to read The Witcher Saga that is about 3900 pages long (78 books) and also watch Lost.

Language: Italian
Challenge: Full
Current level: A1/A2
Comments: Since I am a beginner I need to improve my Italian overall, at least to B1, before starting to read and listen, so I will start my Italian challenge a few months later.

Language: French
Challenge: Double
Current level: comfortable B2 for listening and reading, probably slipped to a B1 speaking and writing.
Comments, links: my language log is here. “Films” will mostly be 28 Minutes on Arte, Engrenages (all 8 series are available on BBC iPlayer at the moment) and Transfert podcast. Books will likely be a selection of “polars” and popular science/economics. Hoping that this will finally be the breakthrough to C1. Certainly my listening skills have improved substantially since I started watching 28 Minutes fairly regularly.

I think the double is achievable so long as work and other interests don’t get in the way. I was tempted by a half challenge for each of Russian and Spanish, although that was mainly because of Jeffers’ spreadsheet!
