Hi Wanderlusters, language nomads, etc.

Hope your studies are going well. Do we have a monthly challenge to complete for January up?
If not, since we aren't restricted by languages, our monthly challenge could be another introduction of ourselves but in our different languages. Like a normal difficulty: introduce yourself in one language that you are studying and an "annihilation difficulty" by doing introductions in 2+ languages you're studying!

Reflection: It turns out my studying strategy for French would not work the same for German/Swiss German. I'm not really sure how to approach studying "cases," if I should just rote memorize them. A more immersive style of studying would be beneficial to me so I can learn the different cases for different genders and then see them in context. Swiss German is even harder to study because the spelling and pronunciation does not really have a standard across the different canton dialects. I might need to find a different source because the one I'm using does not have corresponding audio to it.

If I make spelling mistakes, Or if I construct a sentence that doesn't sound natural, please quote me and suggest a more "natural" sounding phrase. I might post audio vocaroos, so I appreciate commentary on my accent. I welcome any criticism.

Let's see, I'm a silent period learner, but here's a minimalist answer:

Je m'appelle Noël.
Noël is ainm dom. (Nollag)
Меня зовут Noël (Рождество)
I haven't figured out how to type in Japanese yet. Noeru desu.

I was scheduled for a Christmas Eve birth, but missed by a few weeks. They kept name anyway.

ugh, my focus was supposed to be other languages, but I find myself wanderlusting to Irish?!
I spent all last night doing the Duolingo for about 14 levels or so.

my multilingual intro:

Bonjour, je m'appelle unpredictabloke. J'ai 21 ans. Je suis un étudiant. J'adore apprendre de nouvelles langues. genre ça, j'ai étudié irlandais hier soir.
Labhraím Béarla. Is maith liom ainmhithe. Madraí agus cait. Gach rud ach amháin an damhán alla.. :S
< rs,rs. É tão difícil escrever o Coreano.
Pelo contrário, é mais fácil escrever no português. Minha canção preferida é Velha Infância - os Tribalistas. Acho que o português soa lindo.
ok, CQFD.

So basically nothing from German/Swiss German yet. I've never really studied a language with cases explicitly (although looking at the Irish Duolingo it seems that it also has cases but I was really just breezing through the levels out of curiosity). I think I've come up with a strategy for it now, though. Still have half a month to go!

Duolingo Irish was what got me started studying languages again. Beware!

Hello!

I would love to join this team, I hope that's alright. I love languages, and I almost think that I love to study them more than I love being able to use them. There are so many interesting aspects to languages. And the history and the culture behind the language is just as interesting. I can get obsessed with small details in a language and from there shift focus over to another language who shares that same aspect or perhaps lacks it. I never know where my next station will be. :D

As the years starts out my focus will be on Spanish and Croatian. I will also study French, but less frequently.

I am looking forward to share the journey of this year together with you! :)

Heh, looks like I'll be joining as well, as I found myself wanderlusting too.

Russian and Japanese, weirdly enough. I guess my inner geek wants a try in another weird alphabet(tm) and a logographic language ;)

I really need to work on my output, but I will write a short introduction in the languages I'm studying right now:

¡Hola! Me llamo Maria y soy de Suecia. ¡Tengo tres gatos!
Salut ! Je m'appelle Maria et je suis de Suède. J'ai trois chats !
Ciao! Zovem se Maria i sam iz Švedska. Imam tri mački!

I hope that you all are doing well and are studying something really interesting. :)

Hope everybody is doing fine! I've been busy with things (work, mini-vacation and most recently a heavy cold) but here's a brief January summary:
Scriptorium - Portuguese and Irish
Reading - Swedish, English, German and Mandarin
Listening - the occasional Actual Fluency podcast in English
Analysis (grammar, exercises etc.) - Mandarin. I finished the first level of Learnyu meaning I'm somewhat prepared for the HSK1 test (yeah, impressive!).

As the alleged leader of Team Wanderlust, I must confess to having been embarrassingly monogamous with Japanese throughout the month of January.

But here in the (not so) secret wanderlust clubhouse, I can confess to mixed motivations for doing the February 6WC in Japanese: on one hand, I truly want to gain a foothold in Japanese literacy. But on the other hand, the conscious decision to focus on Japanese has (as semi-expected) prodded my contrary nature into resuming interest in Russian, which had stalled dead throughout January.
