Reading challenges (including L1)

OMG, I've recently found out that reading challenges are a thing, especially among book bloggers. It's mostly for people reading in L1 but most are totally fine with language learners - we just don't get any bonus points for that. But you can generally start with a modest goal like 3-5 books :)

The central place for reading challenges appears to be http://novelchallenge.weebly.com :) Also, here are some epic link lists for 2015 challenges at a book blog and bustle.com. Most of these will take place in 2016 too :) TBR pile is a very common type of challenges, encouraging you to make progress on your "to be read" list (often this excludes new books you buy or recently published books).

Also, goodreads groups have a challenge function too (you have to create a shelf for each challenge). This Italian group is cool :D

Has anyone done a reading challenge before? (apart from tadoku and the super challenge, of course) Any recs?

Many challenges allow you to post links to your reviews no matter where they are, so I'm about to start a separate thread, which would basically work like the SC registration and updates thread :) edit: done!

I'm not sure if it's really a challenge, but I did one this year read 52 books in a year. I completed it, without counting a lot of the kid books I did early in Irish, and 5 or so we're in Irish. I plan to up that number next year, as well as maybe read in a third language. Still aiming for 52.

Yep, this definitely counts :) Which blog will you be participating at? Are there smaller goals to choose from?

Do you mean challenges where you have to read a book with blue on the cover/less than 200 pages/the word dog in the title etc.? :?

This too :) Many are about promoting specific genres or expanding your horizons in some way ;) And these silly challenges are good when you have a huge reading list but can't choose what to read next :D
Some specific challenges I've been looking at are those about banned books or new years resolutions (read 1-4 books between now and feb 1st to get started on the new year resolutions :))

I took part in one of the first superchallenges at HTLAL but didn't finish it. I've read more Chinese (children's) books (32 so far, including a handful of textbooks) in November and December than during that first challenge. It seems I work better if I'm not under pressure.

I didn't actually participate through a blog but through Goodreads. At the beginning of every year they allow you to set your goal. It can be any number, so smaller ones certainly do count!

Aww yeah I set a goal every year. I completed 14 books twice and failed with 19 two-three times (in 2014 i completed 14 early and changed it to 19, but "only" read 16 :))

I fail my challenge every year  this year I read the most I've ever done... that is 14 books, too. But I'll still aim for fifty again next year. Thanks for creating this thread.
