6WC 6 Week Challenge - 2021

Postby smallwhite » Sun Jan 31, 2021 3:20 pm

Sprachprofi wrote:The 6 Week Challenge is a challenge to upgrade your language skills in one language from beginner to something more worthwhile, and to see if you can find more time to study languages when competing with other participants in a global highscore. 6 Week Challenges start on February 1st, May 1st, August 1st and November 1st every year, so there is a rough 6 weeks on / 6 weeks off pattern. Note that you can only do the 6 Week Challenge with a language that you're a beginner at or lower-intermediate at most. This allows for a more just comparison between participants.

ISO 639-1 codes here

The three tags #ie #multilingual #linguistics which are all grouped together as "Multilingual" on the scoreboard can be used if you don't want to differentiate between several languages.

Also available are: Nahuatl, #Ancient_Greek, #ASL, #Cantonese. I don't know what the tag is for Nahuatl.

Putting the word "yesterday" into a tweet, with or without hashtag, adds the score in that tweet to the previous day rather than the current day.

The bot is on Central European Time, UTC+01:00, GMT+01:00.

I've signed up for German, and will for the whole year--but I'm sure that this will be my last year as I'll finally be too advanced by next year.

(Said for the last 3 years.)

I signed up for Portuguese. My only goal is to keep Portuguese at a higher percentage of time spent than any of my other languages by the end of six weeks.

I signed up for Portuguese.

I decided on my tags in advance this time, and that right there makes me think this 6WC will be a success. I always regret having haphazard tags!

I just joined the 6WC and was wondering if the bot accepts back dating so I can tweet everything I did the last 8 days. If so, what format should the date be in?

You only have 2 choices: the current day, or “yesterday” as described in the OP.

Dear all,

I would like to participate in the May challenge.
Could anyone help me understand how this works?

Thank you so much.

Cheers,
Ivan

The essential information:
- Go to your twitter-account (or make one) and send the tweet @6wcbot #register #english (or whatever language you want to focus on). Your twitter name will then show up at this site: https://6wc.learnlangs.com/. You can start registration around one week before the challenge starts.
- Once the challenge starts, you can tweet @6wcbot #english 30 minutes, and those 30 minutes will be registered as your target score. If you later tweet 60 additional minutes, your score will be 90.
- if you also do other languages, you can tweet @6wcbot #french 30 minutes and @6wc #japanese 30 minutes, and these will add up in your total score together with your target score, in this instance 150.
- You can also make your own tags, for example #listening or #coursebook, if you want to keep track of your different activities. They will be visible to others if they go looking for it, but they are mostly just for you and you decide how to use them (or not). If you go to the site and click on different users, you can see how people do this and get some ideas.
- Finally, due to Twitter's anti-spam measures, it's a good idea, especially if you send many tweets a day, to write some extra stuff in them and vary your wording a bit, because Twitter may stop your tweets if they look too much alike
