I have several goals outside language study as well, so I'll officially drop French in 2021 and focus exclusively on Russian.

Start date: 1 January, 2021
Specific: Russian

I would like to move my beginning to the 2nd of January, The 1st proved to be a bit difficult :-D But from today on, no excuses!

PeterMollenburg wrote:In 2019 the penalty for a missed day was -7 days/points. In 2020 it was, you miss one day, you lose one day/point. I'm sticking with Sedge's simplistic approach here that he had seemingly gained plenty of positive support for.

We are at the beginning of this Challenge, so feel free (I consider the end of Jan as the cut off) to air any other ideas if you would like to suggest a review of the rules (provided we can reach consensus). Penalties? Bonus point systems? Streaks? Or keep it nice and straight forward as it is?

If the penalty could be lower than a whole week, it would be more motivating. One point down might be a bit too lenient for some, how about 3 points, as something in the middle? But when I realised that missing the 1st of January would have cost me a whole week to come, it was rather discouraging.

I think keeping it simple is the best thing we can do. 30 minutes of learning, that's great and actually challenging. And at the same time not narrow, so everybody can find their way to study while sticking to the rules.

I find streaks extremely discouraging, and they are everywhere. It doesn't strengthen the "yes, I should do it today too, to not lose my streak" feeling in my head, it switches on the "oh, I couldn't do it yesterday and lost my streak, what is the point of even starting again, I will just lose it again" self loathing. So, if we can avoid streaks, I'll be happy :-D

Straightforward, with one point per day please? Otherwise missing a day I would just mean I would quit completely. I would be happy to end with 360 points missing 5 days. But if missing one day means a drop of seven points I might as well quit now. :D

I only managed to get to October last year.

I'd like to sign up for the general challenge with Spanish and Catalan - I'm not so organised as to do the specific one.

I'm aiming for about 360 as opposed to last year's 366.

Please sign me up for Generic as of January 4th 2021 as I plan to work on a few languages at a time. Maybe as many as 30. So a minute a day per language? How can that go wrong?

Good luck, everyone!

Rick Dearman talked me into this, so let's quietly shun him. And may God have mercy on his soul.
