Challenge XXXVII - May 2020

Ends: Thursday, 11th Jun 2020 23h59m59s your time

Sprachprofi wrote:The 6 Week Challenge is a challenge to upgrade your language skills in one language from beginner to something more worthwhile, and to see if you can find more time to study languages when competing with other participants in a global highscore. 6 Week Challenges start on February 1st, May 1st, August 1st and November 1st every year, so there is a rough 6 weeks on / 6 weeks off pattern. Note that you can only do the 6 Week Challenge with a language that you're a beginner at or lower-intermediate at most. This allows for a more just comparison between participants.

ISO 639-1 codes here

The three tags #ie #multilingual #linguistics which are all grouped together as "Multilingual" on the scoreboard can be used if you don't want to differentiate between several languages.

Also available are: Nahuatl, #Ancient_Greek, #ASL, #Cantonese. I don't know what the tag is for Nahuatl.

Putting the word "yesterday" into a tweet, with or without hashtag, adds the score in that tweet to the previous day rather than the current day.

The bot is on Central European Time, UTC+01:00, GMT+01:00.

I've signed up for the first time in over a year. I figured might as well start the new Super Challenge with a bang!

I'm going for German for the 6wc since my French is theoretically no longer beginner!

I have signed up with Sami. My main projects will be working through the audio for my course one more time, and working through the conjugation of all the verbs I've learned so far. I will also do a couple of new chapters in the coursebook. And since the Super Challenge is also starting up now, I hope to get some reading done - I have a couple of children's books from the library to get me started.

I need a rough knowledge of Swedish for a writing project I'm doing, so why not motivate myself by making a number on a screen go up? I'll probably be doing my normal routine of lots of audio+transcript with YouTube and LingQ, and adding Duolingo to get some output done as well.

I've signed up with Korean! I'm hoping a short boost will get me really started with the language, instead of this dithering about it I'm doing now. My aim is to get a third of the way through my textbook and to try and keep a healthy-ish balance with my other languages.

I'm signing up for German. I've been making progress--super slow progress--so maybe this will motivate me.

Maybe this will motivate me to actually work on my French in a meaningful way. Might even finish Assimil (not likely).

I tried to register for Coptic two ways: #COP and #Coptic. After #COP, I got the following from the bot:
@IronMikeSwims Registration unsuccessful: please tell me your target language, e. g. write '.@6WCBot #reg learning #Spanish in May'

So I wrote back in the format the bot recommended and with #Coptic. Haven't gotten a reply yet, so not sure if I was successful or unsuccessful. :?

I tried to go to "my page" from the last 6WC and the page didn't work. Does that page not exist till 1 May?

If I don't get a response from the bot by tonight, I'll message Sprachprofi.
