Challenge XXXVI - Feb 2020

Ends: Friday, 13th Mar 2020 23h59m59s your time

Sprachprofi wrote:The 6 Week Challenge is a challenge to upgrade your language skills in one language from beginner to something more worthwhile, and to see if you can find more time to study languages when competing with other participants in a global highscore. 6 Week Challenges start on February 1st, May 1st, August 1st and November 1st every year, so there is a rough 6 weeks on / 6 weeks off pattern. Note that you can only do the 6 Week Challenge with a language that you're a beginner at or lower-intermediate at most. This allows for a more just comparison between participants.

ISO 639-1 codes here

The three tags #ie #multilingual #linguistics which are all grouped together as "Multilingual" on the scoreboard can be used if you don't want to differentiate between several languages.

Also available are: Nahuatl, #Ancient_Greek, #ASL, #Cantonese. I don't know what the tag is for Nahuatl.

Putting the word "yesterday" into a tweet, with or without hashtag, adds the score in that tweet to the previous day rather than the current day.

The bot is on Central European Time, UTC+01:00, GMT+01:00.

I've signed up with Russian again. The good thing about Russian being so hard is that I'll be at the beginner level and able to have it as my 6WC language forever  I'm hoping the challenge will give me a bit more motivation for grammar study.

Thanks for creating the thread, smallwhite. I always get confused about when the challenge is finishing and need to refer back to your posts!

I'm doing Arabic, partly because FUN's Arabic course is starting up again on the 5th. Although I really like it, I haven't made it to the end yet, so I'm going to have a third go at it.

I know it doesn't really fit the challenge description, but I'm doing Russian, in the hopes of getting a 3 this May. I'm only working on Russian for the next few months, so didn't want to add in another of my languages this time.

Mine was a toss-up between Korean and Scottish Gaelic—and Gaelic won out, because I don't want to lose the momentum I've built up this month! :D I'm excited to get started!

I was considering German or Portuguese but lately I've been more into Portuguese so will go with that.

Goal is to finish at least two of the Beginner Modules of Portuguese Lab. Each module has 10 lessons.

I signed up with Chinese, which should be okay as a lower intermediate who is rusty. Though I will study mostly Japanese again, maybe 80-20 or 70-30. My vacation will start on February 4th, so there should be plenty of time for the 6WC, and I hope to get some hours in. I will be aiming at ~200+ hours :) - will exclude speaking Japanese again for counting, but will count speaking Chinese and other languages.

Good luck everyone!

I just registered with Finnish, no turning back now (first challenge from here I'm actually doing, yieks). But I've just been postponing going through a beginner's textbook, properly! I really need to go through at least one... I hope I can finnish 1 (maybe 2?) during the challenge.

Couldn't resist  and signed up with Russian. I need to get back on track. I'll also be doing Norwegian but hopefully I'll focus more on Russian.
