So if we transcribe something that the podcast publishes on their website, we are okay with putting our transcription on here, yes? Pola-Retradio transcribes some of their podcasts. I thought I might try my hand at transcribing one of theirs and then use their website to check my work.
Want to check on the legal stuff though first.

The term of art in copyright law, in the US, UK and in the Berne convention, a transcription is "derivative work." With the plain meaning of "derivative" in mind it is clear that it includes transcriptions. A transcription is copying and transforming an original work in a particular (symbolic). The original work that the transcription is based on is also protected by copyright, so to make the copy that embodies the transcription, you need permission from the original rights holder.
You can only post the transcription here with the permission of the copyright holder. Sorry.
EDIT: I wanted to point out that you can do a transcription of a Livrivox book and check your work against the original since both the recording and the original work would be in the public domain.

Thanks @rdearman. So if I do get permission by email, is that sufficient? Or do I have to post the permission, or simply say they approved and have the email ready in case?

After getting written permission you can simply quote the relevant portion in the first transcription, then send a copy of the email via PM to one or more of the moderation team. If it were ever subject to a take down order, we'd show the email copy and if they insist we would simply delete your transcriptions.
You might also point out to them you can link back to the original, since it would give them more traffic and raise the SEO for their site.
