6WC 6 Week Challenge - 2025

Postby smallwhite » Mon Dec 30, 2024 2:34 pm

Sprachprofi wrote:The 6 Week Challenge, first launched in 2011, is a challenge to upgrade your language skills in one language from beginner to something more worthwhile, and to see if you can find more time to study languages when competing with other participants in a global highscore. 6 Week Challenges start on February 1st, May 1st, August 1st and November 1st every year, so there is a rough 6 weeks on / 6 weeks off pattern. Note that you can only do the 6 Week Challenge with a language in which you're a beginner or lower-intermediate at most. This allows for a more just comparison between participants.

Looking forward to the February challenge in two days! I'm planning to do Italian again, because I have a trip to Napes about a week after the challenge ends, and then I'm considering sitting an A2 Italian exam in April.

I'd completely forgotten about the 6WC; thanks for the reminder! I have signed up with Turkish because I have a trip to Istanbul in April and I need all the extra motivation I can get to make progress before then.

I'm joining with Spanish, I've really been looking forward to the start this time! I haven't joined in a couple of years and it looks like it's not as popular anymore? The site looks much easier to handle than Twitter though. Let's see how far we can get in our languages :D

Can I sign up if I'm somewhere between higher A2 and low-ish B1? I guess that's lower intermediate, isn't it? I'll be working on A2 and B1 textbooks (German false beginner, I need to improve my grammar base). I have been doing it for months now, though.

I'm not officially connected, but that seems reasonable to me.

Been a lurker for a few months now but finally jumping in, albeit belatedly! Hope it's ok that I'm filling in some backlog from Feb 1-10 "in bulk"

You can back date if necessary. It's 100% honour system anyway, so we're trusting you !

I would add that I find it slightly frustrating when people bulk add study sessions mid to late challenge, because part of the motivation is chasing that person who's a bit ahead of you or keeping ahead of that person that's a bit behind you, which doesn't work as well if someone you're following suddenly jumps. However, at the end of the day you do your 6WC in your way, and you record it however it works best for you.

Sorry, yes you’re right… if it hopefully compensates somewhat, I did leave out textbook/reading/YouTube and all those things that don’t happen in convenient apps that time-track automatically for you, since that really would be impossible to honestly assess!

No worrires. First of all, it's a me problem! Secondly, it's still early in the challenge, so join in and add anything you like! More participation is helpful to make it more fun!
