The "Spanish 5000" course is based on the Frequency Dictionary by Mark Davies, the most up-to-date and methodologically clean dictionary of its kind in Spanish. You learn the words exactly in order of their worldwide frequency. You don't learn exotics. If you are fed up, you stop. The upper limit is 5000 words, a vocabulary sufficient for fluent speaking.

You expect learners to commit to three to five years of Anki'ing to net some 5000 Spanish words?

My username, of course, isn't Kraut. But still, there is something I'd like to add. Maybe this wasn't this user's expectation after all. Some would be able to learn it much quicker.

And others may want to do something entirely different. Like going as far as using flashcards for another (!) Spaced Repetition System. (This can be done to both of Paper and Virtual Paper Flashcards.)

Impossible, reineke? While I was amazed by the multitude of languages you were able to learn/study, and that amazement didn't even cease yet [*], but in case you'd say that the above was impossible, I could disprove it (not "disprove you" of course).

[*] In addition, I also would still like to ask you how that even was possible.

Heavens no! They boast of being special and doing it for free. So I thought sb might find it useful.
I myself don't like flashcards. I find this boring.
However, I'm very much interested in what they also announce on their page, some exhaustive treatment of Spanish perifrasis verbales. I'm wondering in what form they will present them.

Moving to the resources area. Since this doesn't appear to be a question.

Chapter overview and processing status
state of affairs
The course is currently over 60% complete, contains about 4500 items and is published regularly. Units 1- 10 are complete, units 11-25 will be complete by February 2020. We expect it to be completed by the end of 2020 (do you want to join in ? get in touch!). As it will take at least 3 years to complete the course even if you learn consistently, you can easily start learning (as of October 2019).

from the Spanisch 5000 newsletter

a few brief reports on the state of affairs. The course is published on Memorion since 22.1.20. A lot of preliminary work was necessary because Memorion does not have a page 3 structurally. So this function had to be programmed first, which Volker Westphal, the brains behind Memorion, did brilliantly in close consultation with me, together with some filing on the layout. The result is very successful. Spanish 5000 now has full functionality on Memorion, a very sophisticated software that has more autopilot feeling than Flashcards Deluxe. There will even be a version with the same audio quality as FCD in the foreseeable future.

There is a new introduction to the course at the Sprachheld site
https://www.sprachheld.de/spanisch-vokabeltrainer/

and they now have the TTS voice "Polly" from Amazon
