BTW: I was semi-serious since the author is listed as Melissa Xi. For all I know that might be Melissa on the cover. Just to add, the best advice I ever heard given to an author was: "Have your author's photo done when you're young."

I think my answer was the correct one. I think the person in the picture is Melissa Xi. A search for Melissa Xi author turned up a number of Chinese HSK level books which all appear (to me at least) to have the same woman on the cover.

Somehow I have to admit that using a scantily clad Japanese porn actress on the cover of a book purporting to teach Chinese to serious learners deserves some grudging respect for lack of you-know-what's given.
