Thanks for the explanation, Kraut. So, are you trying to do what Iversen calls "Hyperliteral translations"? That does seem very valuable.

BTW, Olly's video highlights the main problem with translating back from L1 to L2:
"Sé cuánto te gusta el patinaje" is perfectly correct, and yet he marks it as a mistake because it doesn't match the original word by word. This method reminds me of those school teachers who would give you poor grades if your answers didn't match word by word what the book said. This becomes even worse when you take into account the fact that some highly respected books for learning Spanish actually contain weird sentences that no one would ever say. If the student is anywhere beyond the first few weeks of learning, he might actually be able to produce better sentences than those in the book.

There is now a collection of all the songs of the series "La hija del mariachi" online. The series was made in Columbia with Carolina Ramirez in the title role, but these clips have low resolution, the better quality episodes are also there but geo-blocked.

some episodes were filmed a second time before they sold the series abroad

I would have liked to see a Mexican version with Lucero but she has passed the age now.

I think that Lampariello and Allen use the method only with beginners, I remember that Lampariello suggested continuing after the initial phase with native input (in French something like "Le petit prince").
I have found a clip with Allen taken from a German online course for Spanish speakers:
CURSO GRATUITO DE ALEMÁN: Día 10 - Wichtige Nummern - Nicos Weg A1 Lección 10 - (español)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PqVlZ7bB8Rk
I do "hyper-literal" or even ungrammatical translation not with a third interlinear line but in two columns, literal and normal translation being in the same row.
Scroll down here:
https://forum.language-learners.org/vie ... 17&t=17293

Alto, fuerte y bien plantado, se pasa ahí horas y horas todos los días desde hace meses esperando a recibir una limosna.

All the words that are coloured are mistakes in German: hyper-literal, word order ..

groß, kräftig, gut gebaut "gepflanzt", stattlich, er verbringt hier stunden und stunden alle tage seit monaten, hoffend ein almosen zu erhalten

an example: "horas y horas" should be "stundenlang" or "Stunde um Stunde", the word order in the middle is a complete mess

I use a translator (Deepl or Google) only and rarely to check sth I am not sure of.
Using Deepl right from the start to get L1 translation would lead to a complete mess when I do the repetition after a while.
On the same day when I translate I memorize and when some time has elapsed and I can't retrieve the text from memory I read through the translation.

Podcast recommendations from reddit

If you're into nerdy films and tv shows, La Órbita de Endor. Again, episodes can be short or long. You can find in depth reviews of newer films or episodes that focus on different retellings of one story (say, Watchmen the comics, the film and the tv show.)

---------

https://www.histocast.com/

Histocast if you're into History. Episodes can be between half an hour to 4 hours long. The older seasons have bad sound quality, but the last 5 years or so they're pretty good.

-----------

If you want True Crime, you can try El rey del cachopo.

Combining several pop-up apps in Elreader:
----------------------
-https://app.elreader.com
Elreader will divide up the text into passages. It will read out the text. It will translate the text with Deepl.
----------------------------
-https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/addon/pop-up-dictionary/
https://www.ecosia.org/images?q=$$
Combine Ecosia image search with pop-up dictionary and Ecosia's pictures will pop up with their captions. You can copy the pictures that fit best.
-snipping tool
If you want the captions with the pictures you can use the snipping tool app
--------------
If you want to roll out the basic meanings and example sentences, use Google Translate's pop-up addon
https://addons.mozilla.org/de/firefox/a ... ent=search
