I'm thinking your vote for best free online translator is DeepL. You bring it up frequently. :)

I'll have to check it out again. Google's better than Bing when I've compared them, but haven't compared Google and DeepL.

There's no doubt DeepL is the most elegant, it gives you ideas when you are in doubt - also via the alternatives it offers.
But I don't use it for the bidirectional approach, because while going for the stylistically best version, there are words in DeepL that may go untranslated or are translated too freely. Finding back to the original may turn out difficult. I try to make a very literal translation, even at the price of grammatical correctness.
Additionally, Deepl still seems to translate into English first and then into German.

That would explain some translations I've seen from Spanish. Language genders can mess up the translation.

I was spending a fair bit of time with google translate last night and sentence by sentence translation Spanish to English. They're often amazing and so far ahead of where they were a few years back.

I'm sure things vary a lot from language to language within these sites. Also, certain sites will translate other stuff better. There's no clear winner. They're tools.

As you said, "they give you ideas". :)

sentence mining for single words

contemplar

The example sentences, computer searched, difficult and uninteresting:

La inacción no es opción alguna que deba contemplar esta Organización.
En consecuencia, a menudo no se contemplará la inclusión de una disposición de esta naturaleza.
A la edad de 60 años, las Naciones Unidas no deberían contemplar la jubilación.

sentence mining when searching with larger units defining a better, limited and desired range of reality

A few handpicked examples of what I got when running a search with "Siempre que voy al supermercado"

everyday scenes with high visualization effect appealing to our curiosity and episodic memory

Siempre Que Voy Al Supermercado Me Toca La Caja Mas Lenta.

Very interesting. One can take the "boring" or "doesn't stick" words or phrases in an Anki vocabulary deck and find some gems that are easy to remember.

Learn Spanish Naturally (Poco a Poco) 1/40

Poco a Poco is yet another language acquisition/learning book based on the Natural Approach/Direct Method. The book, having been written in 1917, was hitherto short of audio-recordings . Being a book over 100 years old, it seems to have fallen short of popularity, arguably that it deserves, over the course of time. Poco a Poco, briefly, is very similar to Arthur Jensen's English by the Nature Method, Le Français par la Méthode Nature, L'Italiano Secondo Il Metodo Natura(links to which ) and Hans Ørberg's Lingua Latina per se Illustrata, in that it teaches Spanish through Spanish only, gradually via comprehensible input. The book consists of 40 lectures, each made up each comprising 5 parts (e.g. Conversations, exercises), 308 pages including the appendix. It requires no prior knowledge in Spanish, thus is available universally.
