Some days ago I was searching for an audiobook in English and found this site with texts of the book in some 20 languages.

Of course, that doesn't mean that the translations are also in the public domain, so if someone can prove that a translation is also more than 70 years old, it's possible to publish the link in that forum, I think.

I think it needs to be 70 years after the author's death (in the relevant countries having that 70 years rule), not the publishing date. But I'm not sure if the rules are exactly the same for translations.

For something published or registered in the USA in 1944 the term of copyright would be 28 years plus another 28 years if renewed or 56 years total. In that case the death of the writer would be irrelevant. US law is tricky and depends upon many factors beginning with the date. Starting with 1978 it is a long time and 70 years after the authors death is only one of several possibilities, 90 and 120 years come to mind is certain cases.

I will leave to others to sort out other countries as the US law has given me a serious headache.
