Just added in the option to pick where in the course you'd like to start.

This looks amazing! I have the Brazilian Portuguese - English pack but I see the audio files do not seem to be supported to create the GLS package. Is there anyway to add that?

I decided to just try to run the python script myself (I'm on a mac). I installed pdftotext, created the directories, and then ran the split text command. Something went wrong. I'm wondering if you can help me. Here is my output:
Checking 'texts/GLOSSIKA-ENPB-F1-EBK.pdf'
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "./split_text.py", line 382, in <module>
split()
File "./split_text.py", line 378, in split
split_text('', glob.glob(location), 'output', '')
File "./split_text.py", line 354, in split_text
pdf = pdftotext.PDF(f)
AttributeError: module 'pdftotext' has no attribute 'PDF'

This looks absolutely amazing!

Now I don't have a Linux machine and I'm not learning one of the supported language pairs, but it looks so particularly amazing that I'll have a live disk running on my machine by... some time very soon... I hope :-)

Could I ask for some help?

Would it be possible to create courses for this using languages not available in Glossika? I'm learning an African language, and I've been compiling a list of sentences, an app like this could be very useful...

Today i've posted release v0.3.1:
------------------------
This release fixes a few bugs. Here are some of the changes:

  • Changing the starting sentence now resets your session so that you start immediately at the new sentence.
  • Some changes were made to how the time left is calculated which should make it more accurate.
  • Support for triangulation and single-language courses has been added. You can study multiple languages in one session or just listen to the sentences in your target language. This change paves the way for making more flexible courses in the future.
  • The app should be better about updating the UI/current sentence playing when coming back to the study session page and there should be fewer issues (hopefully "none") starting multiple sessions without closing out of the app.
  • Preliminary support for handling orientation changes.

NOTE: Upgrading to this version will erase your data/stats!

Absolutely! I've been using it to learn Basque and Shanghainese, i paid translators to translate and record the sentences and i've entered them into the app and study them like a regular Glossika course. Eventually i'd like to be able to use the app to host a variety of free/libre courses that people have put together.

I've sent you a PM.

Perhaps the version you installed is older than what i'm using? You need to install pdftotext ("poppler" on Mac) and then install the pip pdftotext package. I've sent you a PM as well, if you're still around ;)

This is because you need to add each book manually to the dictionary of supported languages, that way the script knows where (on which page) the sentences start and end as well as how to split up the language name. I've sent you a PM as well.

Sorry to all the folks who posted, i either didn't get or somehow skipped over all of the notifications here.

This is very compelling. For Mandarin, I notice everyday Mandarin is a bit flat in tones. However, older people's Mandarin seems to have the tones fluctuate better. Although it might sound a bit unnatural, to me it's better training when trying to learn to speak with accurate tones.

To my mind, it's a great feature to feed in sentences from your own sources.
