Re: Portuguese resources
I'd stay away from literature's classics, they're somewhat hard even for us native speakers

Re: Portuguese resources
Another book (sort of):
https://www.wook.pt/livro/aprenda-ingle ... o/22874672
It's an old style book, with only text. It's for learning english, but the book provides PT translations for the EN exercises/sentences/texts which can be used for practice for learning PT.

Re: Portuguese resources
Does anyone know if there is a Portuguese publisher of educational language books similar Alma Edizioni in Italy? I've tried searching but am not sure that I'm using the right terms. While I prefer something from Portugual I will consider Brazil.

Re: Portuguese resources
This site has a list of 20+ TV programs many of which may have subtitles though there doesn't appear to be a way to turn them on. Most of the links are for European Portuguese but it also has a few links to Brazilian sources. Instructions are provided on how to get a transcript of the subtitles. I easily downloaded the transcript for an episode of Casa de Chef. The second link is for videos.

Re: Portuguese resources
The university of Wisconsin has their text book
Available for free online. It's a complete course with thorough grammar notes, lots of exercises, and dialogue with acompanying audio. It's definitely a great course, especially considering it's free.

As a native brazilian portuguese speaker (and the preface says the emphasis is on brazilian portuguese), I just checked this free course. I'm a bit perplexed.
Based on those fragments I read, It seems to be grammatically correct. But the lessons seem to be quite steep. It's also very funny to notice so many complex and/or useless words in the introdutory pronunciation session. Perhaps this is some kind of teaching strategy, but I personally tend to be curious about the new words I'm learning to say, and I DEFINITELY see no purpose on presenting obscure words like "armezim", "aranchar", "barururu", "nabal", "pândega", "nácar", and others (and these words are all in the page xiii, second preliminary lesson...). I wonder why to expose a total beginner to so many words that are totally alien to most brazilians... I can guarantee that you will never hear these words in a brazilian conversation, or even read them in current newspapers! Perhaps they are common in continental portuguese? I don't know. I suspect they are not. But if they are, this vocabulary is quite a mixed bag.
I did noticed a few other things, but I did not intend to be too harsh before reading it properly... It surely has a lot of great information too!

I'm not surprised to hear that at all . My Brazilian friend had problems with just about every single language learning resources I could find for Brazilian Portuguese. I ended up just settling with what I could find. As for that particular resource, I didnt use all of it, but I remember the grammar instruction being useful.
