That sounds like a great idea. I'll have to do some digging to find them. It could be a very cool experience.

By the way, this is a film rather than a series, but I highly recommend Nueve Reinas, also about con artists in Argentina. It's got good, satisfying twists that hold up on a rewatch.

Yeah, I watched that on Sunday. It was freaking amazing. I'm a huge fan of thrillers and this was right up my alley.

El secreto de sus ojos - is another great Argentinian film that I highly recommend

Great thriller, very suspenseful. I like the twists in that one too. And there's that great stadium shot.

I know this thread is supposed to be about series, but another film in somewhat the same vein is El Aura, also starring Ricardo Darín and by the same director as Nueve Reinas. He made those two films and then unfortunately died young. El Aura isn't as fleet as Nueve Reinas, it's more of a slow build, but I enjoyed it.

Just finished watching the last episode of the Netflix series Elite, which is about a group of scholarship students at a fancy private school in Madrid. At the beginning of the series you find out that a main character has died, and watch the other main characters being interviewed by the police as flashbacks tell the events of and leading up to the night of the murder. There was a little bit of high school relationship drama, but the series had high production value and was very gripping, and I quite enjoyed it.

The series was originally made in Spain Spanish, and has been dubbed in several other langurs as well. Accurate subtitles are available in Spanish, (and thank goodness because I needed them with all that colloquial teenager speech), English, French, and Mandarin.

8 episodes are available in season 1, and the series has been picked up for a second season on Netflix, expected next year.

Also, can someone teach me how to link in YouTube videos? I couldn’t figure it out.

Like this:

Code: Select all

There's a youtube button with the other formatting buttons (it's the very last button) right above the box where you type your post/reply that will put the opening and closing youtube tags and then you just put the string that identifies the video in between them. See how I got the example from the video you posted a link to by stripping off the first part of the URL? Hope that helps.

Thank you very much!

User DaraghM mentioned using" "guiónes" or movie scripts to help with watching movies in Spanish. I think this is a great idea. I'd lovtyo be able to downloaded a Spanish movie script and read it on my Kindle with the pop up dictionary. The only trouble is I can't seem to find any modern movie or TV show scripts.

Does anybody know of any that are available? I'd prefer TV over movies but I'll take whatever. Was hoping to find one for Casa de Papel but haven't had any luck.i though there was one available for El Gran Hotel but I can't find that either.

DaraghM wrote:As previously mentioned, more exposure helps with understanding films and tv shows, but one thing I found really useful is to read film scripts (guiónes) in Spanish. You come across more idioms and idiomatic grammar constructions, as well as broken sentences, interjection styles, acting cues, and overlapping dialogue.

A sample of film scripts can be see here, http://www.berlangafilmmuseum.com/archivo/guiones/, to give you a feel for the contents.

Estoy Vivo has scripts on its official site: http://www.rtve.es/television/estoy-vivo/

The show is a mix of telenovela, thriller, and wacky scifi. I enjoyed it.
