FLTR (similar to LWT)

Postby AndyMeg » Fri Sep 29, 2017 1:03 pm

Have you used this program? It is called FLTR (Foreing Language Text Reader). It appears to have been inspired by LingQ and use some code from LWT (Learning With Texts).

It got my attention because it seems easier to install and use than LWT.

What do you think about it?

FLTR requires Java, it has not been updated since 2013, and it uses Google Translate and/or Glosbe (for French). There does not seem to be a way to import vocabulary items easily, so if you have done extensive work with LWT or Lingq, you'll have to start again from scratch, I suppose.

For sure it is easier to install than LWT.

The need to use Java, the lack of a function to import vocabulary and the seeming abandonment of the application turned me off, so I never gave FLTR much of a look. But if you have not made much of a commitment to LWT or Lingq, it might be worth a try.

I just tried it, seems easy enough to use. Good for intensive reading.

If you look up a word, doesnt it load a new tab and not update the tab you used before for a different word? Maybe they changed it, but when I used it, even if you change it to 0, you would have a window open with 20 tabs for the 20 words you looked up.

Oh yeah but you can close each tab as you look up the word. It's not great but not that bad either.

I've been using the app on and off and I find it really good for what it is. Endorsed.

I changed one of the dictionaries but I don't know how to make it look for the word in question (as the default dictionaries do).

Could someone help me?

Did you add the #### in the dictionary link in the settings? To use other dic, I remember you chould right click a word and select the other dictionaries or when you ate adding the translation, there should be buttons like Dic2 Dic3 (or maybe im thinking of LWT)

I don't know where/how to add the #### in the dictionary link.

This is the dictionary I'm trying to add: http://endic.naver.com/?sLn=en

How should I write the link?, where and how should I add the ####?
