I've recently wrote some simple experimental .lua scripts for mpv video player - https://github.com/kelciour/mpv-scripts.

  • sub-cut - extract a part of the video as audio or video with subtitles
  • sub-bilingual - generate bilingual subtitles
  • sub-bookmarks - save current position and subtitles in .txt file
  • sub-export - extract selected subtitles from .mkv file
  • sub-playback - add interactive mode, i.e. automatically pause at the end of the fragment with option to continue playback or replay it again with or without subtitles
  • sub-replay - replay previous sentence
  • sub-search - search for phrase in subtitles and skip to it
  • sub-sentences - generate subtitles with sentences
  • subs2srs - automatically add new card in Anki with audio, picture and text
Default keybindings and usage information can be found at the beginning of each .lua file.

How to install on Windows:
  1. Some of the scripts require FFmpeg. It can be downloaded from https://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com.
  2. Download mpv and unpack it somewhere.
  3. Create subfolder 'scripts' in the mpv installation directory or in %APPDATA%\mpv (may not exist).
  4. Put .lua file in that subfolder and, if it's necessary, open it in text editor and update some options.
  5. (Optional) Copy mpv.conf to the mpv installation directory or in %APPDATA%\mpv.
  6. Open some video and press keybindings to activate the script.
