Glossika Product Updates

Who knows.
I've downloaded everything, so I should be able to continue on as before whatever happens to the website.
I hope they leave their current product available.
It will be very disappointing if I log into glossika and find that my list of courses has disappeared.
If he continues to have his old courses available, OK.
If he completes new courses with the GSR/GMS format, then I can ignore the upgrade and continue on as a happy camper.

While I share your sentiment, I have serious doubts as to the future availability of the soon-to-be-previous products. I interpret these announcements as signaling a major and permanent change to the Glossika product line. That is, they include the implicit message that anyone wishing to work with the older versions had better load up now!

Sadly enough, the latest blog on glossika.com calls their product "the sentence method" and avoids the use of the term "gsr."

The 10,000 "sentence" method was an Antimoon thing. It was popularized by AJATT and it quickly turned into an SRS-feeding monster. AJATT came up with "Massive-Context Cloze Deletion"

The name is old:
The sentence method of teaching reading, writing and spelling (1887). The approach is even older.

Can anybody confirm mp3 and pdf files can still be downloaded? I wanted to wait until later to get the Hakka Chinese course, but the way things are going it seems I should probably hurry up and fetch those files if I still can...

This whole upgrade/rollout/sales pitch process has been strange.

Some people in the Facebook group are assuring each other that the old version of the product will still be available, but there is silence from glossika itself.

Maybe you could email glossika and ask, but I would just download it.

It sounds like another case of Lang-8, where the company is producing a "better product" when the first one has lots of fans.

A cursory glance at the book of Fluency 1 confirms the existence of odd choices and mistakes though. Sentences 3 and 4 spell the word for "bag" in Japanese hiragana why? And sentence 6 should say "My brother and I are good tennis players" but it really says "My brother is also a good tennis player" in the Sixian version (but not the Hailu one). Did nobody who knows Chinese check this? It's clear just from looking at the characters...

The French version is similar... loads of mistakes. The IPA is absolute rubbish (who the **** wrote that garbage?), some of the audio translations are odd and there are outright mistakes occasionally as well. I would never recommend Glossika French to a beginner, and even hesitate with an advanced learner like myself, but it does help for automaticity. I just wish there weren't so many mistakes! It's a shame if it's true that Glossika is going down this subscriber/SRS/automated settings path. Doesn't interest me at all, if it turns out to be how I'm picturing it, which in turn is based on the information I'm getting in this thread. Whereas an improved version of the French GMS/GSR files including IPA errors fixed etc, would've interested me- or at least if the company had of taken that path overall with their languages, as opposed to what appears to be a platform that will not interest me (I could be wrong, and hope I am). I hope in terms of your purchase, Serafín, that there aren't too many more mistakes to be discovered!
