good overview of translation techology

http://www.translationtribulations.com/ ... ation.html provides a very thorough overview of various technologies that the author uses to do legal translation better and faster. I think all of them would apply to translation in general, and many of them may be relevant to the study of language, starting with the use of corpora. He provides a number of URL references for further exploration. He makes an excellent point at the end that regardless of its many benefits, "good translation technology cannot replace human knowledge of language and subject matter."

He does show his usual strong bias against machine translation, which he prefers to call "machine pseudo-translation," and that is not one of the technologies that he discusses.

I liked this bit:

while the "gloss" added to machine "translations" is at best lipstick on a pig
