Thank you for all these resources! Is FSI a good alternative for Assimil? Unfortunately there is no Assimil course for Swedish for English Speakers

Good question! Generally speaking, the FSI Basic language courses and the Assimil courses contain materials sufficient to bringing the user within the CEFR A2-B1 range. The following is a repost of my comments under the “How to start learning Swedish language?” discussion thread. https://forum.language-learners.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=3726

"FSI Basic Swedish: In the 1960’s through the 1980’s, the Foreign Service Institute (FSI), U.S. State Department, published a large collection of language-learning materials for their in-house courses. These courses are now in the public domain and are available on numerous websites. Doubtless, some of the vocabulary in these courses no longer has the purchase that it once had. In addition, as these courses were published a few decades ago, for the training of diplomats, it is quite possible that, at times, the language used will seem excessively formal. Nonetheless, these courses represent an interesting opportunity to expand one’s knowledge of a language for which relatively few materials are available. A realistic level on completion of the FSI Basic courses would be somewhere in the range of A2-B1. Nota bena: these course materials were designed for use in a classroom setting; hence, the notes to the students can seem a little sparse at times."
