Google rolling out new Google Neural Machine Translation

Postby MrPenguin » Tue Sep 27, 2016 11:39 pm

I was alerted to this via this language log post (http://languagelog.ldc.upenn.edu/nll/?p=28421). It appears strides are being made. I'm not sure yet how major the strides are, though judging by the tests in the language log post, there is actually a usable quantity of completely comprehensible and grammatically correct English being output, which seems promising. While it only does Chinese->English at the moment, more language pairs should be rolled out over the coming months. Hopefully, it'll do really well with closely related languages. :3

Links to a couple of news stories about it, taken from the language log post:
