Comprendre le monde is a 141 (as of today) episode podcast made by Pascal Boniface, founder of IRIS, Institut de Relations Internationales et Stratégiques. The topics are always related to politics in some way, and most of the speakers are very eloquent with a large vocabulary, and a few times I've been so impressed that I've specifically tried to memorize the phrases I've heard on it. You really don't get a more standard French than this. There's a good 55 or so hours of French content here.

Le Monde des Langues is a French polyglot who makes videos in French about learning languages, a topic which a priori should interest everybody learning French. I used to watch him a lot when I was learning French and it helped me a lot for my listening comprehension, because he has fairly high quality audio equipment and speaks very clearly. He has 359 videos, the average video being 15 minutes, and a total of 93 hours of content. He also has a blog (though he doesn't post there as often).

7 jours sur Terre is an independent quebecois news Youtube channel focused on international and Canadian politics. He has a quebecois accent, though it's very standard quebecois. The content is fairly interesting and could be useful to anyone who wants to get used to Canadian French. Not sure exactly how much content there is on the channel, because he uploads extracts from each of his episodes, but there's probably around 20 hours of videos. One time I was watching him so much that his accent got stuck in my head and I was reading à la recherche du temps perdu in it.

TV5monde offer "a completely free mobile application to learn French from video."
The application contains 3,000 free exercises to improve your understanding of the French language using programmes broadcast on TV5MONDE. In total, there are 15 types of exercises (missing word texts, crosswords, multiple choice questionnaires ...) within the App to enable you learn something every day in a different way. From level A1 (Beginner) to level B2 (Advanced), learners become familiar with French as it is spoken all over the world. Environment, fashion, gastronomy, everyday life ... everyone learns according to their needs and interests through oral comprehension, vocabulary or grammar exercises.

What I like so far is that the dialogue comes at you at street speed. No way so far as I can tell to slow it down, which IMHO is a good thing, especially since the clips are short.

I tried this app about a year ago (it was pretty new then), but I didn't do much with it. I worked on one lesson, in which a woman goes through her handbag and basically tells us what's in it. The video was just a couple minutes long, the speech was quite fast and natural, and although it was mundane it was strangely interesting. There are a bunch of videos on under the theme "Le sac des filles". However, I got bogged down with all the exercises to complete.

The various categories seem interesting and useful for experiencing a range of speech styles from natural to news, and a wide variety of topics. I should give it another try, and not really be bothered if I finish the exercises or not.

EDIT: I just tried another exercise and worked all the way through it in about 10-12 minutes. I was skeptical at the start but I enjoyed it more as I progressed through the tasks. Overall, I enjoyed the exercise, and the tasks weren't too onerous. While doing each task I was looking through the questions while listening, so I was listening for specific answers. I can see this being useful for when you have 15 minutes or so to work on listening comprehension with tasks to force you to focus. I definitely think I'll use this app from time to time.

Ah, what a coincidence. I completed a lesson just now (took me about 20 minutes). It was a short video about child labor and how Covid has aggravated the situation. I watched the video two times initially without looking at the exercises, to get the gist. Even then the exercises were challenging enough and I had to do multiple pass-throughs to complete them. I especially liked the exercise where certain words were replaced with their synonyms and you had to pick the appropriate word from the speech corresponding to the synonym.

Overall, I can see this being a regular part of my listening comprehension routine :)

Here's one of the latest article/podcasts from Le Monde Diplomatique, this one about Erik Satie. They do a lot of the written articles with an associated audio version, though the French ones seem to be much more available than their English-version articles (those French and their language promotion).

These articles are excellent for reading/listening input, though they can have some tricky vocabulary. The key thing is the articles are interesting, which is always best for maintaining motivation. I imagine it's perfectly feasible for an intermediate French speaker to read and listen through these, maybe a few times, then listen to the audio independently. Perfect for boosting vocabulary/structure of 'educated' French.

La postérité réduit souvent les artistes les plus inventifs à leurs œuvres les plus aimables. Tel est le sort du compositeur Erik Satie, un siècle et demi après sa naissance. Ses célèbres et soyeuses « Gymnopédies », qui meublèrent tant de génériques, reflètent mal la personnalité abrasive de ce communiste de la Belle Époque.
