German verbatim texts

Postby zb001 » Mon Apr 25, 2016 1:24 am

Hi !

I have a problem, I searched all over the net to find a similar corpora like this one:
http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/c/corpus/corpus?
c=micase;cc=micase;view=transcript;id=ADV700JU023

It is a spoken verbatim text of an English conversation, really nice for developing an
idea how natives are speaking. This michigan stuff is so awesome that I gave up hope
finding anything close to it in German. Most of the German corporas use out of date
interfaces from 1999 and many of them are restricted in some way or lacking spoken
data. Seems like a no go to me.
Can anyone help me with finding something similar of the above ?
Even interviews are great, or videos with subtitles, the emphasis is on live language.

Thank you very much.

ps: I also know about subasub and some german subtitled shows.

First off, your link is broken :) http://quod.lib.umich.edu/cgi/c/corpus/corpus?c=micase;cc=micase;view=transcript;id=ADV700JU023 Did you use the little URL button on top of the reply field?

Second, maybe I can help you. If I get your problem right, you are looking for transcripts, right? You will find natural speech in the media, but mostly in less-staged forms like talk shows or maybe interviews on the radio.

You might want to look at https://alternativlos.org/ (subjects revolving around politics and or hacktivism); example: https://alternativlos.org/20/transkript.html. There are several other radio shows with transcripts (have a look at Deutschlandfunk for that), but they ressemble less everyday speeches because the experts are mostly very well prepared. Alternativlos is a podcast by a computer science guy whose blog http://blog.fefe.de/ somehow grew to an extent that Der Spiegel quotes it, but the blogger keeps using a very informal language.

If you want to look at what people in Germany talked about in the last week, I recommend a google search for "transkript böhmermann gedicht". The Mediathek (http://www.ardmediathek.de/tv)contains several subtitles for talk shows which may also suit your purpose.

Very very nice, to be honest I did not expect the kind of answer I got.
I think I can work with this. I happened to know about mediathek, but with that radio transcript angle I think I can't ask for more.
I don't know if I can +1 you because I'm new here... anyway I appreciate your help very much and thank you.
