Assimil Swedish - Translation and Alternatives

Postby Speakeasy » Fri Apr 22, 2016 5:36 pm

I came across a recently-updated discussion thread on the HTLAL entitled "Assimil Swedish Translation" for which I have appended the LINK: http://how-to-learn-any-language.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=36785&PN=1&TPN=1 should anyone wish to continue the discussion on this forum. As it seems that there has not been much discussion to date either of Assimil Swedish or of possible Alternatives, I decided to modify the title so as to widen the conversion.

Thanks Speakeasy! I'm the one who recently posted on the OG HTLAL forum.

Here's the old thread started by åkerfeldt:
åkerfeldt wrote:Hey guys. I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this post, but I couldn't
figure out anywhere else that would be better. I have both books for Assimil's le
suèdois sans peine. I've learnt French to an intermediate-advanced level, but every
now and then there's a colloquialism or two in Swedish that I can't figure out exactly
what a good way to say it in English would be. I'm in the process of translating both
books to the best of my ability from Swedish and French to Swedish and English. Are
there any native Swedish speakers that would mind (or would want to) take a pass at my
English translations and show me where the mistakes are? I'll furnish the word files
showing the Swedish and my translation in English.

TL:DR I'm translating the French in Assimil's Swedish to English, is anyone interested
in checking my English/Swedish Translations? I will make the word file available to
anyone who wants it after its checked for and clear of errors.

He later wrote:
åkerfeldt wrote: Hey guys, sorry its been forever, life has gotten much busier than I anticipated. I'm no
longer able to spend as much time as I would like on languages as school and my job has
picked up considerably. I have most of the text done and will gladly forward my work to
anyone who is curious. I regret that I cannot finish it at the moment, but I would love
to give back to this wonderful community who has given me so much the last few years. If
anyone is interested I will gladly send them what I have so far, so hopefully another can
pick up where I last left off. In the future I do hope to pick it up again, but due to
time constraints, I have no choice but to put my Swedish ambitions down for the moment.

The one likely collaborator who might have a copy is jeff_lindqvist -- åkerfeldt was never a regular; only posted a few times on HTLAL. So, I think reaching Jeff (and possibly reaching åkerfeldt via Jeff) is my best bet. Some serious Internet detective work over here, I hope it pays off! :D

Good idea, I didn't know he was also a participant here!
UPDATE: I cannot contact jeff_lindqvist because I don't have PM privileges (due to being a new user? not sure). Could someone possibly contact him on my behalf and make him aware of this thread?

I'm looking for either:
*The copy of OP's work
or
*Some info on how to reach the OP

Yes, you must have three posts to have PM privileges. You have two posts now, so if you reply to this, thanking me for this information, you should be able to PM jeff_lindqvist on your own. ;)

Alright, I'm here now. 8-)

I don't really remember the original thread over at HTLAL, and definitely didn't get åkerfeldt's notes but I've now sent him an email...

...and it bounced.
