GlobalVoices.org is a website that has several languages available, all of which are either original or human-translated.
Global Voices wrote:Global Voices is an international, multilingual community of writers, translators, and human rights activists. Together, we leverage the power of the internet to tell stories that build understanding across borders.

To start, go to the Spanish site cited above and click on an article like Cómo Mongolia se convirtió en una potencia del básquetbol 3×3. The article in English is here, if help is needed- How Mongolia became a 3×3 basketball powerhouse.

The GV articles in Spanish and other languages will have a link to read the human-made translations at the top of the articles. Newer articles may take a week or so to translate. The articles are topical and newsy, but in a magazine style. They cover many unusual topics that won't be found in many other places.

Reading widely is something I find useful for my learning. I've always been curious about what's going on in the world. Growing up and living in our native languages, we are often exposed to reading and media that we may not choose to read or listen to but comes to us anyway. I try to replicate this experience when learning a second language. It teaches new vocabulary that may show up elsewhere and often times leads to serendipity. You may not know you like something until you learn more about it.
