I'm particularly found of Modern [----------------] Grammar: a practical guide. Available in the FIGS plus Russian, Mandarin and maybe a couple more.

For German my all-time favorites are:
1. "Weg mit den typischen Fehlern" (2 vol.)
2. "Sag's besser" (2 vol.)

I had also an "Übungsbuch der deutschen Grammatik" from the Langenscheidt series but I can't find it on their site anymore. I've lent my copy to a friend long ago and he never returned it :|

But beware that I learned German in an intensive school course. YMMV.

Good thread. It's funny how little space is devoted to written exercises on this forum, despite it being one of the main ways of language learning. I'd like to use them more.

More expensive, but I've found Routledge's Basic X and Intermediate X series to be good.

McGraw-Hill's "Practice Makes Perfect" series has many grammar exercise books in a number of languages. The ones I've seen have all been pretty good and relatively inexpensive.

For Spanish I prefer the "Grammatica de uso..." series because it is all in Spanish, no English at all. This is not a problem even for beginners--it's easy enough to follow.
