Online study group for Ancient Egyptian

Postby Beosweyne » Sun Feb 06, 2022 3:08 pm

Over at Glyph Study they are going to start a new study section for Middle Egyptian learners. Here is their announcement:

New Beginner’s Section Starting Monday March 21st 2022. 1st assignment to be completed by Sunday April 3rd.

Glyph Study is a FREE, online study group with an email list and an associated website hosted on Groups.io. We offer study sections with a variety of popular Middle Egyptian grammars and provide an interactive and supportive environment for students at all levels of study. We particularly encourage beginners to study with us.

GlyphStudy is entirely student-run. We work by list discussion, sharing study resources, and explicating the grammar in homework submissions.

We will be using James P. Allen’s "Middle Egyptian: An Introduction to the Language and Culture of Hieroglyphs" as our textbook. This is a full, college level grammar and takes a little over 2.5 years to complete. We are using the 3rd edition, but you may use your older copy up until lesson 7 — that will give you time to decide if the section is right for you, and then you will need to purchase the 3rd edition.

SIGN ME UP! It’s a 2-step process.

Step 1: Send an email with both your first and last name, and the textbook section, "Allen 2022" to the owner’s address below. If you don’t send me this information, I cannot process your application; it’s list policy. We need to see your information in an email before you are admitted, as it won’t show up at the site until after the fact.

I'm doing their Collier & Manley right now. The Glyphstudy folks are great, even if you don't finish! (Uh, um, like my Hoch 18 attempt and my Coptic that lasted only 5-6 months.)

You're not a C1 (or B1 or whatever) if you haven't tested.

I am one weekend away from finishing Collier & Manley. Next up starting 15 Sep: translating Amenemhat's instructions to his son. Love Glyphstudy!
